January 22nd, 1937: A massive arctic high over the West brought cold dry air setting brought record lows in Indio (13 degrees F), Palm Springs (19 degrees F), and Newport Beach (29 degrees F).

According to your link... the hottest and driest year since records started in 1900.

Therefore when mundus claimed it was the hottest and driest year ever he was making a statement that very likely has no basis.
