Thats why I’m not getting rid of my old all lace boots and didn’t want dbl boa for the new ones. It also reminds me that I forgot to add another item to the list of what’s in Felix’s bag of tricks, a few of these big enough to temp fix boots and bindings, mine or just as or even more likely someone else’s, just not @Kento you’re walking down bitch

Walking? Why spend that energy when you can use your board and glissade down?

Yeah, I keep tools. In my truck. I mean, it isn't THAT far from bottom of lift to where you're parked. And you can always spark one on the way.

I agree in theory
But last year switched from double boa to the quick lace things
Personally they worked better than the boas for me.
Losing a few hours for broken wires at heavenly and then a couple of years later snowbird kind of sucked too

I forget what they call them but I’m loving the laces that snap in
i went from quick laces to boa. still prefer boa. Oh well, to each their own and it doesn't really matter lol

Weighed merits of a bunch of boards but ended up walking away with the Capita Black Snowboard of Death on the big Snowfest today. Well, they ran out of the size I wanted so 161W will be delivered to me shortly. Stocked. First new snowboard I've had in many years. Looks like it will be good for what I want to do.

Got the Smith Squad goggles marked down quite a bit along with a pair of Smiths and Giros for the kids. Tried to keep the splurge down (trying to budget) so new pants will have to wait until next year. Got some decent thermals that will hopefully act as a decent stopgap.

Pretty solid score. Just need that snow to start flying. :shaka:

Oh yeah almost forgot - won the raffle on the way in too. Got a free Burton 22L backpack (irony of this is hilarious), Columbia pullover, and hat. Not bad at all. One of many good options. Also have a few 2-for-1 vouchers for Squaw/Alpine. Anyone wants to split that, let me know...

Angry has always liked those Capita BSoDs, you’re stocked and I wouldn’t worry about the size.
On wicked cold days I’m rocking thermals base layer then a lightweight fleece pant mid.

and I don’t care what @Kento says backpacks rule especially free ones

Misspoke - got the ride size for what I wanted. They just didn't have it in the store so it will be shipped to me. Stocked.

BitD, across the street from the casino in Bishop, there was this outlet store/warehouse which extremely cheap prices. Got these Bonfire pants for $100 - absolutely best I've owned. Still great pants but sections of fabric have come off near right pocket where it can't really be resewn, rendering them relatively unwearable but I have maintained faith. A patch covering the entire pocket?

Absolutely backpacks are good and that one is perfect for my wife and/or daughter. Extremely versatile one too. Interior sleeve for laptop or water bladder, lots of pockets and storage, solid pack, worth something like $80 or so. Very stocked - such a nice surprise!

I like being able to strap my board to my back for my ostensibly short inbound hikes. Ngl I’ll do just about anything to make my life easier at this stage in the game

I hear you and yeah, if I was going to spend a significant part of the day hiking, a backpack makes sense. I believe my record for Hemlock at Mammoth was hiking it 13 times in one day. Spring day where the wind just kept filling in the old tracks with windpack powder every 2nd to 3rd run. Top was a bit crusty but was absolutely the best game in town.

But overall, I always feel offcenter when I have extra weight. Even if it's more mental than physical. Backpack is a no, helmet causes more harm than good, even the one time I borrow a PowerBalance for a run, messed me up.

Bro helmets are a no brainer as far as I’m concerned. I wasn’t sure at the start if id like wearing one when I started riding again and thought it might be a part time thing but I instantly fell in love with mine (Smith). I’d be dead if I wasn’t wearing one after hitting my head on a log buried in the snow last season. The season before I took a branch to the dome that might as well been a baseball bat

As far as the power balance goes I think you also needed the sticker on your board for it to really work?

the only time i don't wear a helmet is when its double-digit sub-zero windchill and the only reason i don't wear it then is that the hood on my 27 year old goretex parka doesn't fit over a helmet

i love that parka. its been with me on countless backpacking, motorcycle, and ski trips. its SO scuffed now. i look like a homeless patroller. someone asked me 2 years ago if i bought it at a pawn shop. and that was before i added a massive hand stitched patch of 1.9 oz ripstop to the front where a tree slashed me a good one across the gut.

:roflmao:

edit: on second thought, i also don't wear a helmet on christmas when i wear a santa hat and on closing day when i wear a sombrero/sarape and drink plenty of beer while bashing through giant piles of mashed potatoes

:roflmao:

The sticker placement was wrong! I knew it!

I get claustrophobic when things are tight around my head. Fucks me up. Beanies/hoodies are OK but I don't even like wearing baseball caps.

I think it used to be called "Bargain Sports" or something like that. I loved that store because you could outfit your ever-growing children with gear that wouldn't break the bank. It was a mandatory stop on the way up since we would always forget something....

That's it!

They had great deals on everything. Just rows and rows of gear.

The season here started last weekend and already the bodycount is up to 3 :roflmao:
Sadly not surprised. Early season is like late in the day when it comes to injury potential. Without any details my money would be on exposed terrain hazards/early season lack of snowpack related mishaps???

Along with early season lack of strengthness to consider there’s also a minimum requirement of at least 75” of cover needed before ima go ride the good stuff.

While opening day was tempting, not going to Kirkwood for 6-12" base (generous) and 3 runs.

Same deal with Mammoth - really need that 72-84" base before it's really even doable.

Snow is falling over next couple weeks but the accumulation is sister-kiss equivalent.
