It was a classic 90's potato chip bushman that I got from my friends brother. Yellowed and beat to sh!t. Not at all the right board for me and have more memories of getting worked during hurricane swells than any decent rides on it. Next board was probably an 8'0-ish mid-length aka funboard aka egg aka kookstick. No idea who shaped it but thats when it all started coming together.

A used 6'1" Tom Oberlin single fin pintail. I was 11 yo. Never heard of him before or since.

I stared on the canvas raft as well. It would eventually get a blow out where two of the "tubes" would become one. Had to ride the lopsided thing anyway.

I believe that my first was a 6'6" Ezra - second hand from a local shop, an older local had come back from the south pacific and no longer needed it. As 13 year old who had been boogie boarding for about 5 years - I knew that this would be the perfect beginner sled...

5' 4" (+/- 1-2") Beach Towne squash tail thruster and then followed by a 5' 6" (+/- 1-2") G&S pintail thruster. I wish I had kept both of those.

8'4" funboard with no shaper's logo but glassed at "diamond glassing" -- I think it was by someone who shapes for rusty?
standard eggy funboard outline but a fair bit of nose rocker and relatively sensitive rails. Great board to learn on--I definitely feel the 'small longboard' is a better option than 'large shortboard'
Was cool too to have a custom as a first board. had good mojo/juju/whatever.

7'6" single fin rounded pin shaped by Steve Moret, who shaped a lot of boards for Bahne in the early '70s.

An early 1980's Bessell I took out of the garage rafters in my grandparents' Ventura home. It was my uncles. I'd guess it was a 7'6

I would have thought a used Midget Smith for you. Midget made some great grom boards. Or maybe a used RJ.

9’10” Ole here, well used (read beat to sh!t) when I got it in 1965. Cost $25, that’s 25 lawn mowings for you non boomers.
