Mine was my last in 1995. I dislike what they represent now, like many, but I think there is something to be said for them-as so many try to copy. Thinking of getting one again. What do you guys like Or hate about them?

only ever had one CI board. 1986-ish handme down that my brother got custom made from Al. don't even remember the size and tail. but it had yellow Curren stripes. probably a "red beauty" type of design.

I've had two and I could never get either one of them to work for me. But I suck.

One thing I think is interesting is that over the last year or so it seems like they're doing more of their own design work and less "inspired by" of what others are doing. Maybe the criticism they were getting a year or two back about all their copying hit home.

The mbm is a wicked template. I had one and surfed pretty well on the thing.

Al shaped a board for me. The tail was off/lop sided, even though it was an 'Al'. I found that funny.<img src="/forum/images/graemlins/foreheadslap.gif" alt="" />

It was a PU epoxy so it looked like it got bull raped after one surf from all the denting from my feet. I blew out a fin box (only one ever) landing a chop hop wanker air at zuma hitting shallow sand. That was the best board from CI, but Ive had better from other shapers..

I really like the Fishcuit I have. Bought it from a guy who was trying to transition down from a long board and couldn't do it. I love it for summer. I have also had a Black Beauty that worked really well as a step up, and I currently have a MSF2 single fin which is pretty fun to change it up with when I am feeling retro or just wanting to try something different. Over the years I have learned that I enjoy the relationship with my local shaper, but you can't beat some of the Craigslist deals I have come across, and there is a lot of CI's and other big names on there b/c they're so popular.

With that being said, I think type of wave and ability is more of a factor than the board you have. Knowing those two things and correctly communicating them to any shaper worth his shvt and you should have a solid board. I have seen guys in other countries tear it up on a yellowed beaten up boards some surfer left years ago. I have also experienced many boards that have worked well for me in some waves, and horrible in others. Bottom line, Channel Islands is a solid company, Al didn't grow that big because he knew how to market, he grew that big because his shapes worked and gave so many people that "magic board" that everyone is after.

Now, lets <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/beer.gif" alt="" /> &amp; <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smokin.gif" alt="" />
