Nice 4X @teeroi

Took me a bit to figure out the 4X that I bought a few months back. First couple sessions I was looking like a total kook on it for some reason. Maybe it's the bottom concave but the board would go on rail much faster than any other board I've owned. Once I adjusted to it I realized how great of a design it is.
The 4X and the 4VC have the vee off the tail and the deck is pretty foiled. Wade had a model for Sunny the 4SG, that he really foiled the deck so the rails weren’t so blocky even in thicker stap and mini guns for Sunset and Pipe. It was explained to me that the domed deck helps the boar tip over on to rail easier. As I got older my boars got thicker I always ask him to dome the deck so there isn’t too much volume in the rail.

But some surfers need reps on the Tokoro concaves. Both Wade and Kerry use pretty deep concave and it takes getting used to.

I was told, "you keep the same paddling but added sensitivity," with thinner rail

Crowning the deck to reduce rail volume began around 1980 reducing resistance in rolling the board on edge compared to a flat deck full thickness Brewer type rail of previous years . Beak noses and forward thickness eventually disappeared too for less resistance in pushing the board down the face when paddling .
GG what about step decks or what team stretch calls sk8 deck? I had a late 50's early to mid 60's(?) Yater 6'9" pintail with step deck bezt log ever surfed her to her death:cheers:
