Just got back from a week on Tavarua. Wifey surfed her 6'10" board, but three other women there were on shorter boards (and another 3 on longer boards). The competitor in her was pissed.

Stopped by CI just to window-shop but not get anything. We all know that's a fool's game.

Wifey ended up YOLO'ing a 6'5" Flyer from the blem-rack. STOCKED

Did I mention it never really got anything beyond HH?

I think I did.

Here:

1. Old man (pretty much pathetic) cutback at Wilkes on the Flyer, with a kid watching:

2. The biggest/best day at Cloudbreak on the Burch:

A couple of better quality pics coming but likely never to be posted.

YOLO alert.

There's nothing quite like finding a sweet board on the rack that perfectly fits your dims (6'0 x 19.25 x 2.66, 31L). This board was originally shaped as a custom, so the rails are more refined than what you see on Sharpeye OTR boards that are that thick.

I really like the Sharpeye Jack Robinson spray that they've been doing; icing on the cake. I had an HT2 once as a 5'11 swallow in dark arts that was good but not great. I've never really clicked with a swallow that wasn't a twin or quad. Looking forward to riding it as a squash in standard construction.

YOLO alert review on this HPSB.

I've had a few chances to ride this board now, and I think I’m getting the hang of it. Sharp Eye classifies it as a HPSB for average waves, which I can see, but I’d say that unless an HPSB is your go-to surfboard, this board might be better considered as a good-wave HPSB.

When I last rode the HT 2.5, I found it required a lot of input to get it moving. Especially on takeoff, it didn’t have that initial speed; I had to pump pretty aggressively to get going. I'm a front-footed surfer, so I like boards that are fast off the line and have built-in speed.

I have similar feelings about this board, but I also noticed that once it gets moving and into the curl, it really picks up speed, drive, and feels easy to surf. I started adjusting my approach by taking a bit more time on the takeoff, keeping the board closer to the pocket. This worked well, and suddenly the board started to click with me much better and I wouldn't have to pump so hard to get the board going.

When you surf the board the way it’s meant to be surfed, it’s awesome! But I’m not sure it’s the best HPSB for me. I feel like I have to adjust my surfing style to make it work. Compared with other HPSBs I like, such as the Two Happy and I72, I don’t need to make those adjustments. They're similar in performance but don't seem to require me to change my surfing style as much.

All in all, this is a fantastic HPSB, but I'd only strongly recommend it as a good-wave board, and mainly for surfers who identify as back-footed, love surfing an HPSB, and mostly stick to thrusters. If that doesn’t sound like you, you'd prefer the I72.

What about fins. Which ones have you tried?

I've used it with the AM2 and the Felipe Toledo FCS 2 fins. I think with the medium entry rocker and lower tail rocker the FT fins seem to work a little bit better. I use the AM2 in my synergy which has more continuous curve.

Where is the leash plug? Did you use a retractable leash?

What size and construction? Toledo's are accelerators right? I'd give a more pivoty fin a try. And try different builds too.

They are all PC and size Large. Are you talking about different fin construction? I plan on trying the AM2 performance glass this year. Was stoked to see FCS release those. I don't like anything more pivoty (reactor template) in shortboard unless they are step downs.

Yeah yeah, pretty sweet that they released the PG ones. Wanna try those too.
I get ya. I dunno man, different board changes it all, always worth to try totally different fins. I would at least some performers on that sick sled, those are so good.
