... or use water from the ocean, or use less water, especially in the cotton fields of Bakersfield or the rice paddies of Marysville, or in millions of lawns everywhere...

Think it was on the erbb; one time someone linked to Lake Tulare in California that used to cover some of the central valley. Was one of the largest lakes in the US.

I know this is blasphemous, but there are so many great books on the hydrography of the West, pick one up some time and realize that we have known this day would come for a century and decided to do stupid sh!t anyway

We fvcked around, know we're in the "find out" phase

Be glad you had it when you did
Golf courses in Pheonix come to mind....

Yeah, we're in a drought but the megalithic civilizations West of the Andes were in a constant drought and thrived until they collapsed. We're a civilization in decline, which is why we can't deal with problems.

And what were the populations of the Moche, and the rest of those civilizations? Mormons thrived irrigating the mountain valleys of the Great Basin too, but once the population reached a certain level it exceeded the capacity of the region and reclamation became the only viable option. There were a hundred thousand Indians, at least, in the central valley 600 years ago. Now that's the population of a Fresno suburb.

People can live in deserts, yes. But how many people?

We have a large amount of citrus in Mecca, and our water table is just nuts, no fear of DROUGHT. The drought is a product of state mismanagement plain and simple.
