Yo frothers.

Im making a new board to go with my 6m wing. 5’2” x 29 x up to 6” (not sure about going so thiccc ).
im hoping to make something very stable for it’s size, light and able to get up quickly in light wind.

happy to hear your thoughts on the short/wide thing if you gone down that path.

will post as I go alon.

I think the thickness will not be noticeable if you chamfer the board as it goes out to the rails. Keep it meaty in the middle for float.

That's really interesting, I will be curious to hear how it goes. Saw another guy online with a sub 5' board but 8" thick. That's funny/bizarre...but maybe makes sense.

My initial experience winging was being unable to stand on a 6' barge, I can sup foil it just barely, but it was so tippy in wind waves. I went back to my 7.6 and now to my regular 6.10. Water starts are getting efficient enough (at least on port tack) that I think I could manage a smaller board maybe. What I ultimately want is to do this on my surf foil....either a water start like a windsurfer or the sinking/knee start seen in some videos. It would be pretty rad to have no swing weight.

Thanks guys,

I mainly knee start but can manage standing starts too....the board made myself last time tends to sink a bit at the back as well as being tippy. That’s mainly a problem if a drop a gybe/tack and try to salvage it from my foiling position.

I feel a bit of a disconnect between prone foiling a sub 4’ board and then trying to pump or turn the surfboard shaped sup with all the swing weight forward...it just never seems to totally gel.

im hoping this one will fix a couple of issues for me. Back to the planer tomorrow.

Well I finished it off and got foiling.
all I can say is this goes better than anything I’ve ever built. I had a couple of dramas building it, mainly I use a crude method of regulation for the vacuum...as a result this one has a nutsack like patina on the bottom...oh well lol.
Other wise short wide seems like a thing if you can’t be arsed hauling a 28lt board out by the footstraps.
