Go away? I don’t agree.

big Time reform? Definitely.
agreed. don't have a problem with the death penalty per se - some people are predators and will always be a threat to those around them. that being said, there should be a higher standard of certainty of guilt, before society takes a life.

I’m generally opposed to the death penalty.

that being said these two words from the article kind of make this situation a non-issue at this time....

”...lawyers say...”

Ok, lawyers say. So what? Is really dna evidence that exonerates him or is it just that lawyers say there is.

Shouldn’t this be something that’s relatively easy to confirm?

Given that we've wrongly executed ~4% of the total people killed via the death penalty is enough to stop it dead in it's tracks. Even wrongly executing 1 person should have put a halt to the program. The death penalty doesn't accomplish anything - does not deter people from committing crimes, does not dramatically lower the prison population - what is it even for? Also we're running out of 'humane' ways to kill people

the recidivism rate for executed felons is zero. so there's that.

“The results obtained nearly three decades after the crime “proved to be incomplete and partial,” acknowledged Morrison, a lawyer with the Innocence Project.”

Death isn't a penalty....it's revenge. It's certainly not a penalty a civilized person should embrace.

The problem is that the way things are going, democrats want to let anyone who isn't dead out of prison.

If you want to get rid of the death penalty you have to be OK with life in prison for those that have proven unable to live within the confines of society. The left isn't ready to do that.
