Why don't hurricane names follow the same trend as naming babies?

For example, instead of Hurricane Ian why not Hurricane Ieyon? Or if there's another one to follow, what about Hurricane Jacyn? Or Jaxxon perhaps?

And while we're on the subject of naming hurricanes, why not more ethnically inclusive names? Hurricane Jamal, for example? Or would it be Jamawl?

And for reference, here is the official 2022 list:

Alex
Bonnie
Colin
Danielle
Earl
Fiona
Gaston
Hermine
Ian
Julia
Karl
Lisa
Martin
Nicole
Owen
Paula
Richard
Shary
Tobias
Virginie
Walter

Although when reviewing the list, it's possible there is some effort at inclusion/alternative spelling of names. Shary? Gaston? But seriously, Tobias? Walter? Martin? Are we in the 1950s?!

Sheila Jackson Lee proposed this and the usual suspects got triggered.

The NHC cycles the names every six years, and new ones come along when old ones are retired. The F-I storms seem to get retired the most to me.

Do you think if they get to the letter k again and it is as bad as katrina , will they go all in and call it Karen ?As far as baby names are you going to take a hurricane called braxton seriously:D

Karen's already in the rotation in the Atlantic. Coming back around again in 2025 - they have six sets of names. Already been retired in the Western Pacific.
