I'm used to surfing your classic beach break and have an awesome time almost every time I go out and when i went on a trip and went to a point break I was terrible and it was embarressing, I wasn't sure why I was having such a problem, was it just simply that i was having a bad day, or that I was so used to a certain kind of surf that I couldn't adjust??

Experience and adjustment is key to performing at any level in different enviorments.
Pointbreaks are a micro climate compared to the wide open beach breaks, and breaking down the subtle differences is the key.
Waves that seem to magically come right to you at beach breaks always seem to veer left or right at point breaks, going straight to the other guys.
And that perfect looking wave you sighted from shore becomes a mush ball or closeout ONCE you catch it, for whatever reason.
Gotta surf different breaks more to find the answer and adjust without conciously doing so.
