What is school re-opening going to look like in your state?

They are already on the clock. It's a basic requirement to be able to do your freakin job. It's not overtime, it's a mandatory training session like Title V. Do it or leave...
Let's talk in the morning when you are sober. Then you can tell me all you know about employee management, how you don't have to pay more when a worker learns a new skill, and the worker should do anything you ask because they are on the clock.

Then I'll tell you all about the profit motive, you cute little socialist.

Whatever. I have put my retirement notification in. 15+ years doing Community College Faculty payroll. Over it.

I pity the poor bastard taking this position over. A lot of really bent Faculty members on the horizon for a long, long, long time.

Maybe because I am on the front line. I am the one who has to make all of these Socialist Pipe Dreams reality. Dudes like Every just sit back and look at their pay stubs.

Funny ha ha?

Do you really think that a karate studio, a small theater for drama practice, and a private music lesson are comparable to a public school with over 900 people coming in and out of the place in very close quarters?

Funny how you think that.
maybe the solution is to disperse the money to lots of small providers who can do what my kids extracurriculars can do

Teachers are an easy target for the Right and the Left.

Listening to trump and DeVos talk this week, I thought, Oh, this is their latest "enemy of the people."

Can‘t wait to see how teachers are going to deal with teaching in person to the people who opt to show up AND teaching online to the people who opt to stay home.

My friend was going of on the people of Orange County today. They are a combination of stupid and entitled.
They are doing the exact right thing. Nothing stupid about it

Orange County cares about their kids

Those places figure out how to run classes......until there's a covid outbreak.

A beach rec program nearby just had to shut down because 6 high school-aged kids who worked for the program just tested positive. The rec program is run by a private company that partners with the township.

My good friend's brother is a butcher in a grocery store and everyone who works at the store got sick a few months ago. I'm assuming a grocery store is a privately run business.
Did the kid get sick or was it just a positive test?

Here they are making you make a choice. You will either do “brief temporary with an ASAP return” or “virtual academy” for the whole year and they are assigning teachers accordingly

The world isn’t union construction. Most jobs don’t get a direct return on training

And this is the equivalent of training for something that’s a technology change in a business where you have to adapt or die. There’s no extra money for that

just teach one lesson and have a camera in the room for those joining via video. record the session so people can join live or watch recorded. even the kids who go in person would be helped by being able to go back and replay the lesson

1. That‘s really not how teaching works anymore. Teachers aren’t just standing at the front of the room delivering content anymore, at least in middle and high school.

Anyone at those grade levels who are still teaching this way are a bunch of sh!t-heels.

2. attendance with online instruction is patchy at best. They turn their camera off and go play x box. And you can’t really compel students to be on camera.

3. education and teaching is much more interactive now than it was decades ago. the online teaching experience and experiment was a failure due to the lack of interaction.

4. you really think students are going to go back and re-watch video lessons? most don’t study for important exams, let alone review material independently.

5. where’s all this a/v equipment coming from? Who’s paying for it? Where are all the new computers coming from for teachers working from home on days where instruction is being done online?

Your unions are the enemy of the people. As far as you belong to the union and it represents you, you're part of the problem.

A broken clock is right twice a day?

BTW, I volunteered to teach in the classroom in the fall and I am old and fat.

I told my boss they should do both.

Remote and in class.

But I was told to F off.

You don't know my union.

We've been played by the union busting Chicago negotiation team the state school system hired the last two contracts.

The state school system has 4 billion in funds reserved.

But they are going to do layoffs in the fall anyway.
