HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Recent Huntington Beach visitors and residents have noted a strange appearance of jelly-like, flesh-colored creatures washing ashore.

"Every place we went, from one end to the other, we saw these little round opaque looking (things). We thought they looked like embryos," beach visitor Ted Brickler said.

The small, strange species, with a reddish inside, were found to be about the size of a thumb.

"I started noticing them Thanksgiving morning in the water. I think they're little baby jellyfish," Huntington Beach resident Joe Ali said.

"Like a turtle egg without a shell," noted Brickler.

Some believe the creatures to be sea cucumbers while others said they were far too alien.

My lameass self can't take the time to get this image into .jpg format but here's a link to a sea squirt tunicate. Is that what it looks like?

That's close, but they don't have the openings.

There's a gang of marine biologists just up the street in Long Beach. It can't be that hard to find out.

You made me look, never heard of them.

Malaguas have consistency like a jellyfish but are small. We get 'em here when the water changes temperature. Contact leaves an itchy rash. I've heard some people call them sea lice but I don't know what they're called in English.

JCheez, tunicates come in all shapes and sizes. Do a google image search. What's washing up may not be tunicates, but my one link isn't necessarily a good representation. That is all.

They are actually burrowing sea cucumbers. They get unearthed when there is a big weather/swell/wind event which we recently had.
It dislodges them from their regular place on the sea floor and they end up washing up on shore.

they're actually Candiru (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candiru) eggs that will hatch before the next combo swell and infest the dicks of anyone that tries to surf near HB
