I’ve been about 5 times since it opened, always on the right. Some thoughts.
I’ve had a lot of fun, it’s well organised, good mellow vibe and you get more waves in ab hour than you would at my local beach. There’s a certain amount of performance anxiety associated with it to start with.
It’s not that wind affected. It stays clean just gets a bit of bump on the face.
Like any spot, it’s better after you have been a coupe of times and understand how the wave works.
The water stays close to the air temp. Board shorts in summer ( when the Atlantic is still60 f). It was around 43 on one session I went last winter. Unseasonably warm this Xmas so shouldn’t be too bad for you.
A bit of foam is your friend here. The expert barrel wave is a quick takeoff and a barrel that fits a shortboard, the regular advanced wave has a steep ish take off but then a fat cut back section before it steepens again. You need something to carry you over the fat spots so a fish is a decent choice. An egg works well but over 7’ it’s too long a board to fit in the wave. It’s quite a short shoulder and you need to stay in the pocket or you bog out.
This is the regular “ advanced wave” board is a 6’10 twin which glides over the fat spots but is short enough to fit.
