I don't know going with a set formula is really necessary. I wanted mine to have more volume
and paddle power for bigger days around here and it worked out beautifully.
Sean has made himself everything from (iirc) a 5'11" to 6'9" and been happy with
them for various purposes. For ME, I'd go with a Shadow in my fish dims (5'11"-6'0" x 21ish) and this as step up from that. You could certainly do a TM in same dims as a Shadow
though if you wanted an all arounder. IMO.
I think the TM scales up very well.

Been riding mine session since I got it with different fin set ups. Started out with Stillettos and it went good. Then removed the rears and added those smaller single post fins and it was super loose and no like. I need to try those rears with the more full outline fronts and see how it feels.

I have to say that I love my Shadow and its hard to not be riding it but want to give the TM a fair shake. Right away its different with the rocker and shows in lack of speed which I like. Have had some good ones but not sure it will replace the Shadow. I was trying to speed up the TM by pushing on my front foot as that can get the Shadow going in flat spots.

Kinda wish I would have gotten a smaller one since being on it since there is room for it I believe.

Let me know what fin set ups you guys like, thanks

I Imagine you can use the other board posted here as a reference.

Isn't the TM a bit more pulled in on both ends and a little more foiled with more rocker throughout than the Shadow?
As Sean says, it's a different ride.
I often find that the shadow is too fast/floaty in powerful hollow waves and it's really difficult to get in the pocket. It tends to get pushed out ahead.
I'm thinking(hoping) the TM will be better suited to those conditions

Correct. Different animal than the Shadow, which is more of a fish front end with
rounded tail and e-wing. Although the TM will work well in a wide range of
conditions, I got it for decent-good surf and it's money. I've had good success with
every fin setup so far from a 7" SurfySurfy single with sidebites (2+1) to Von Knight
quads to GG fronts with Von Knight quad rears. Sean said Stilettos are good in it
and he actually likes running his big twins with either a center box nubster or
large single tab canards too. Try your VKQ set.

That's what I was thinking.
I surf a 5'11 x 20 1/2 x 2 1/2 shadow and love it. Can't seem to get off it but on occasion I find myself on it when the conditions call for something else

I have a 6'4 v 20 1/2 x 2 9/16 TM on order that is intended for when there is some juice.

Happy to hear you say that the transition from one to the other is easy. I think the volume numbers on both boards will end up being around the same. Will post pics and a review soon when the board fairy comes.

rp hornet vs time machine?
I def prefer my TM over the rp Hornet I had that was the same length. Ymmv.
Regarding names, I've seen posters recently post up about a 'Shadow' model by another shaper and
think another SD company has one now too. Point is, seems LOTS of model names
run into the issue of having been used before.

I am aware they are different animals and just pointing out that I feel I miss it. After riding it in varying conditions it has a place in the water. Just feel I will be on the Shadow more :)

Got back on the Shadow today and was an easy transition. I must say I missed it and really like surfing it for the speed etc.

Not sure if Ill ride the TM unless its bigger or a point break with an open face. Might even consider selling it....

You're gonna love it I think!! VKQ set today.
What FCS set is the VKQ close to or is there a comparison? I tried the Stilletos and liked them although not into taking off one board to put on another. Tried the Stilleto fronts with the single tab rears and too skatey for me.

Prefer to get a set on and run it.
