Saw this mentioned in the one board quiver thread and wanted to get the impressions of those of you who have ridden one. Looks like a really nice outline and I especially like the look of it without the third longboard finbox. Seems like is usually run with a nubster combined with Sean's hatchet twins.

Wondering how they go as a pure twin, if they work in punchier waves and if they are generally 3" thick or you can go a bit thinner without losing the essence of the board.

I've been loving mine on the tiny days. It definitely goes in surf as big as you want but I prefer more refined shortboards of those conditions. Very reactive.
IMO, it would be way too loose without the nubster in the longboard box. Fins are set pretty far forward.

Thanks for the feedback. I wonder if he moves the fin placment back when he does them as pure twins. Hard to tell from photo.

I have version 1 and will be getting 2 soon. Need a bit more shred.
Tried lots of fin variations and like mine as a tri although rode as twin with NVS TKnox center small fin and worked good at the Bay on Maui.

twin with nubster is fun at slopey big Old Mans for me

Been riding a twin with standard MR type placement for last 2 years so I'd probably get along with that vs the modern thruster twin.

I had asked Sean a few questions about it via email and he selectively answered one and then ghosted me.

Probably better to give him a call when/if I'm ready to order. Just wanted to gather some more info. His website used to have info about the boards but now it's just a Shopify site set up to sell fins. Not even any contact info to order a board, which is strange.

I guess my other question is that from what I've seen the thickness runs 3" and north of that. I'm used to more like 2 1/2 or 2 5/8, on my mids and wondering if it's more foiled so it doesn't feel so chunky. Know it tapers in the front but is beefy in the rear which makes sense.

They have some stock in Hansen's right now. You can head there and feel them up. I believe they have at least a 6'10 and a 7'0 or 7'2- can't remember.

Would love to but I'm in NY.

Going out to CA later in the year, if I haven't scratched the itch with something else I'll likely order one to be ready when I get there.

pretty much this. I traded another board for mine, which was previously purchased from Sean as one of his personals. It had the hatchet twins and box nubster where he apparently preferred it and I haven’t messed with that setup once. It works.
Small and soft waves or overhead and lined up, it works. The combo of super low tail rocker and forward twin placement allow it to glide but still pivot and go on rail without having to be all the way back on the tail. There’s a YouTube vid where he shows and explains it better that is spot on in my experience. I have zero interest in trying mine with a standard single center fin in the box, but I think it’d be a little squirrelly without a nub, so if you don’t want a center long box, maybe get an fcs2 trailer box for a nub?

My big reservation on this board is that I surf punchy beachbreak primarily so not sure it will fit the wave well. Looks like more of a North County SD reef board. But I'm just guessing not having seen one in person. The video explains the enhanced nose rocker of the 2 over the original but what I generally find is that tail rocker is actually more of a factor than nose rocker in keeping you from digging the nose as the wave gets more critical. You need enough nose rocker but once up and riding your really putting your weight back.

The one question that Sean answered via email is that he's been making twins for a guy in San Francisco who has been pleased with the results so I'm not super worried about ditching the third fin as long as the twins get shifted back a bit. Been riding twins the last few years and haven't had issues though mine has channels which I feel like counteract the lack of drive and directionality that twins can sometimes have.

I grabbed one of these HG2 off of usedsurf for a steal. 8' fricking 0"!

Should be here next week. Got the little nvs nub and some nvs two tab twin fins on the way as well.

Will update here once I've got it in my hands.

It arrived today. I couldnt get the nvs nubster fin to fit in the center box. Thought it was the fin but I tried a different center fin and it wouldnt fit either. For some reason the smallish von sol center fin that came with the board fit so I just ran it and some npj side bites. I dunno if there is resin in the box or what is up but I didnt have time to figure it out because the wind was calm and it was my one window this week to surf. Had a really fun session in some soft, waist high rollers with the occasional steep inside section. Pretty much the exact type of surf I got this board for. It felt good and more nimble than I expected for an 8-0. Hopefully I can get the center box figured out so I can run it as a twin + nub next session.
