You don't need a decent school.

I don't get that.

That is bad programing.

Live with your parents. Go to the CC, go to the state college.

If you get good grades you can get someone to pay for grad school.

It's pretty simple.

I paid for my school. My parents let me live at home and pay really cheap rent.

I see a lot of young people live above their means.

My point?
i agree with this completely. paying $40/50/60/80/100K+ for a B.A. is nuts, particularly if involves going into debt. the topic is worthy of it's own thread but the college industry is a racket, imho

So let's say San Diego takes Stockton's lead and gives everyone below the poverty line $500/month.
That's 14% of the population (a lower percentage than most big cities), or about 200,000 people.
They would be giving out $1.2B a year.
The entire city budget is currently $4B/year.
Now do the tax increase benefit analysis. And net out savings associated with the various social welfare programs that won’t be as needed.

As far as I can tell, giving the 20% of the population who are impoverished that $500/month is a much smaller amount than giving 80% of the population that $500/mo. And that's assuming the recipients will spend that cash the same way the entitlement programs function. An assumption that is subject to challenge.

UBI is the ultimate expression of the participation award mentality.

In reality it should be $20.20 or $20.50 or $21.00 to coincide with AGW claims.

$30 is probably more realistic if you want to provide for a family of 4 at a minimum (even then?)

Why NOT?

Yeah I'm not falling for this whole so-called "living wage" scam. That's how Big Brother gets you.

What's next, a functioning healthcare system?!

Before you know it the USA might start to resemble a first world country.
Ya, people a dying in the streets everywhere you look.

Glad you're finally coming around.

Just so you know, we might have to tax some billionaires to make it happen.

I know that will be hard for you to bare.

What are all the skilled labor and tradesmen that make between $15 and $30 going to want to be paid when a burger flipper in Kansas makes $15 - $30 an hour?

The same as they are now?:crazy2:

golly, i suppose they would have to be paid above the min. wage, just like they are now.

we do really need to be careful though. we don't want to get too carried away and end up with a working class that's able to afford house payments, sending their kids to school or other such nonsense.

All that and little inflation to boot. $20 for a big mac coming right up.

So, $50-$60 an hr for those now making $15-30 an hour?

Won't affect the cost of anything, right?

Skilled tradesmen bill to the client between $90 and $110 an hour. Ever try to hire a plumber tok fix that leak? Maybe a little workers comp reform by way of universal health care could solve your conundrum.

You would be in favor of that, right? Universal healthcare would be able to reduce that $10 an hour per worker that goes to cover a workplace injury insurance.

Do you even payroll, bro?

This here's America. You're free to pay them more out of your own pocket if you want. That would be virtuous on your part.
