One of my best friends was originally from Paterson. He and his brother are buried at sea in front of the house. He left the day he graduated from high school. This is a guy that traveled extensively in central and South America, Asia, and Europe. He told me that Paterson, NJ was the worst shithole he’d ever seen.
One of my brother in laws is from there. He's from a nice part of Patterson

The only thing worse than hearing pe name-check towns in the greater Boston area is hearing people name check shitty NJ suburbs
Must be a local thing. If you don’t mind not surfing and have a job that’s gonna allow you to retire at 40 - 45 I can see the jerz and up the east coast for the bankup. After that, if you’re still there surfing isn’t all that important to you.

I think these modified welfare programs are really interesting

they definitely have a branding/messaging issue

I don't know why they keep calling it "universal" when only a select few get it
and "income" when it's supplemental to close the gap...I mean, yeah, technically
it is income, but I think you get what I mean

governments need to be testing new approaches like this, gathering learnings
and moving forward, always be innovating...ESPECIALLY at the public policy
level....I can't kennit any better objective.

Before we can successfully market the idea of UBI I think we need to figure out how to undo the marketing of the idea that the government is incapable of producing positive outcomes and that privatization of industry is always the solution despite 40+ years of evidence to the contrary.

I don't think the latest round of stimulus has hurt that cause but I think there is some cognitive dissonance that will be hard to overcome. I have some pretty conservative friends who were definitely not unhappy to get the latest check + extended unemployment. One older friend just had his hip replaced under OHP (Oregon Health Plan) and yet I guarantee if i was to ask him how he felt about Medicare for All he would respond with a Fox News talking point about the evils of Socialism.

I wish the D's were half as radical as Fox portrays them to be.
