That was a pretty exciting win for 24 year old Colin Morikawa this afternoon. Only other player to have 4 wins including a major title by the age of 24 was Tiger himself. Does Colin have what it takes to become the next great player to reinvigorate the sport like Tiger did?
Doubtful. Tiger came along at the perfect time. Golf was stagnant. Most players never even worked out in the gym before he came along. Nearly every veteran on tour was straight up scared of playing Tiger. He intimidated the hell out of them. He was doing things with his shots that seasoned PGA veterans had never seen before.
Compare to now where every kid can drive it 300 yards. Competition is way more stacked now. The kids practice all the shots, including the trick shots, etc. Most eat like professional athletes, workout like professional athletes, etc. They all have crazy analytics to analyze courses. And perhaps biggest of all, not a single one of them is intimidated by anyone else on tour because they all want to be like Tiger.
Golf pro once told me the only difference between the top 100 and the rest, is mental. You've got 10000's of guys that can hit every shot in the book, but only the pros can do it under intense pressure.
Additionally, he moved the hype needle like no other golfer in history
