where does it say the water was 43?I know her husband. My daughter used to work in his company. He's a solid surfer and cool guy. Never met the wife but he told me about her swimming accomplishments. This one -incredible-43 degrees no wetsuit.
"As she approached the Farallon Escarpment — steeply sloped, reaching a depth of over 6,000 feet — the water temperature plunged to 43 degrees.where does it say the water was 43?
was a chilly 48 over a week ago. been climbing steadily back into the mid 50's since then.
ebb tide draining the bay water was probably around 54-55 for her swim
missed that i guess. im sure there were pockets of "warm" and colder water along the way."As she approached the Farallon Escarpment — steeply sloped, reaching a depth of over 6,000 feet — the water temperature plunged to 43 degrees.
Worried, her crew saw her skin start to turn pale. They gave her hot chocolate and warm water to pour over her neck and on her hands."
It could be hyperbole, but I would bet there are cold pockets of upwelling. I would think after doing it for half a day her body was in so much shock she could not tell anyway.
That’s all in the article in the OP.Not to disparage her effort, but she got a significant boost by a huge outgoing tidal current. I’d assume it was planned start time to ride the current or the attempt would’ve have been doable at all.

I'm assuming she's married to Adam G's brother - don't know his name, but apparently someone on here does.
Thanks for the link. Awesome to see she's still slaying life!
Edit: Frankly kind of mind-blown that she's a grandmother. Didn't think of our generation (myself included) as being *that* old yet.
Didn’t get that far down the article.

I never forget the day in the 70s when these hippie dirtbag skateboarders set up a ramp on the sidewalk it was a quarter pipe that went around the corner lol. I remember her and them getting into it and a lot of yelling and fuck yous etc going back forth bw the brick and them and next thing I know it’s chill and she lets the z-boys use our hose to make koolaid.
