The rotation thing works when you know the crowd, it's light enough to keep track, or you're at a point break where it's pretty obvious. How do you do that when 20+ people sit on a shifty beach break peak? I don't back-paddle people intentionally, though many people do here if you don't move fast enough. But I probably get 20% or more of my waves by just sitting still or paddling into the peak when others are paddling out or for the shoulder. I figure I get to cash in on the decades of surfing ob by outpositioning most of crowd.

Change to rotating out the back as people catch waves. You just caught one, you paddle back out and post up underneath and work your way out the back as people farther out take off.
At size, there is a side drift with people floating laterally; there are rips with people floating out to sea, there are eddy's with people floating in circles.
Not to mention peaks that break 3 sets in a row and then completely disappear.

How is your health? Ready for a big winter?

My comment to @Mr Doof was tongue in cheek. Not only do the goalposts move, the whole playing field shape shifts. Experience will get you a long ways but without the luck component, see his post above.

Body is good. Shoulder issues have vanished. Lower back flares up if I ride a small board in weak conditions and sometimes if I surf too much.
As for big waves, I’ve decided to become very selective when to go out. Super hard paddle out or if I get denied two times in a row, pass. Annoying crowd , pass.
It was double overhead plus on the outer outer bar a couple days ago and guys were getting solid rides. I was tempted but passed. Those days are done and I am fine with that. I can still get sizable fun empty surf out front if I am choosy and avoid the hype and the beaches wrath.
The one beauty of becoming a geri you don’t need much to get off any longer.

OBSF makes for the perfect fantasy pinup girl.
pretty empty waves to fall in love with, a few times a year.

No different than the forgotten slutty chick with a couple std’s, mentally unstable, fake t!ts and is looking at your bank acct. who texts you out of the blue. It wasn’t all bad… was it:drowning:

While playing the soft porn music they leave out the raw energy, the currents/rips, paddlout through the inner bar, cold water ice cream headaches, hold downs, hordes of soft tops at any size wave, the multitude of guys with sub six ft. boards on long period double overhead days.

She loves everyone or dgaf, one way or another.

Hey boys, wanna party?, with lapsed Pilates membership w/o makeup.

I remember shooting my shot with one of those.
She was a "friend" in high school the way people are friends in high school. I hooked up with her better looking and more stable friend, she hooked up with some of mine. Tiny thing with a Jay Leno chin and mega melons that still stood at attention in her early 20s. Always had a look in her eye like she would be fun.
Ran into each other years after high school. She had some well angled photos on her Myspace (lol) page, many in bikini tops. Had a drink, shot the sh!t, ultimately didn't pan out to anything more than old friends catching up in the time I was willing to invest.
A couple years later she hit me up on social media asking if I knew anywhere she could score some pills.

I find the beach to be a bit more raw and honest than that analogy.
Flawed.
Daunting.
Requires lots of attention with infrequent payoff.
Capable of brilliance that is objectively mesmerizing to anyone.
Windows that lull you into thinking you've got her figured out.
Moments that make you question why you stay.
Some people seem to have it wired.
Some people are utterly lost.
Ultimately you might realize you enjoy the peaks, valleys, and challenges and question anyone who prefers something easy.
Or you might realize that you'll never figure her out, and that's ok.

I miss those imperfect winter afternoons. 8-10, a little onshore. Looks wonky from the beach. You make it out. There's a dude 200 yards to the south and a couple the same distance north. All alone with that wilderness feeling and still plenty of power to get the adrenaline going. Big drops and speed runs in the pocket. The place is fun in almost any conditions. It's not perfect that often, but it's special always. Even if you just get flogged you feel like you accomplished something making out and back in.

1 Because it is the closest break for a lotta surfers.
2 Because it isn't always 'that' tough to get outside.
A gajillion Surfline cams up and down the beach doesn’t help

I had a longer answer, but these sum it up.
It's the most consistent place in the region and there's 8 cams and a detailed forecast to verify what's going on. Thankfully, despite those tools, the place is big enough and dynamic enough that the forecast often under/overestimates things.

Anyone in SF adjacent area have any home window repair recommendations?

I frisbee tossed my phone at the couch (perhaps a tad too forcefully), missed by about 2 inches and sailed it into the front window behind it. It broke the inner pane of a double paned window. So the exterior pane is still intact, but the interior one needs replacement.

Anyone got a guy?

Surfline should track the tidal drift up the beach. 6'@18 seconds with a 8knot northern drift, plenty of sessions had I known what was really going on I might have just watched, or at least paddled out on a much bigger board lol.
