Anyone have any recommendations on a really good how to train a dog book?

Getting ready to start looking for a dog and planning on investing some serious time and effort into training this one.

Driving on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere, trying to make it town before dark, when this little guy ran across my path. I thought it was a plastic bag blowing in the wind and I came very close to hitting it. At the last second I realized what it was and I think I made a noise as I pulled over a little ways down the road.

My lady hadnt seen it and she asked what was up. I paused, knowing what was about to happen. The little dude was hiding behind a rusted fender and came bounding out, squealing as my gf approached. Thankfully we didnt find a whole litter. Also thankfully we have had a house to stay in right now because he just pisses and shits wherever he likes and I cant imagine dealing with that in a tiny camper.

He was super skinny but otherwise seemingly healthy and hes been eating and holding down food. First couple days he was pretty upset and needy, whining a lot, but now he is becoming playful and his personality is coming out. Hes a total sweetheart.

I think we found a home for him but still working out the details. I dont want to keep him any longer because i know we will get attached. Our other dog is pretty grumpy about the whole situation.

What a story!
I would take him if I could but can't be available during the day for a dog and Simba would eat him for lunch.
He is a super cute little pup!
You should keep him and find a way to make it work.
Your little guy will warm up to him and they will be best of friends before you know it.
Do it man!
You found this little guy and you can't let him get away!

I think a lady from Kansas who has a house in Mulege is going to take him. Just figuring out the drop off dates and whatnot. Or rather, my girlfriend is figuring it all out via facebook dog rescue groups. If he was a little older and able to be housebroken I would be really tempted to keep him but as it is he just poops and pees everywhere which isnt the worst thing in a house with laminate and concrete floors but in a tiny camper for a month would definetely suck.

He is getting stronger and more playful every day. His personality is great. He is still tiny. 20231230_133555.jpg

3 years ago when we got our new puppy the old white dog was not happy with it. Since then they've become friends

It's also given the old dog new life as he turns 14 in April and although you can tell he's old he has plenty of life left

I want to thank all of you who do rescue/volunteer work, @Aruka, @Chocki ...

I need to volunteer at my local shelter and walk dogs, maybe work on my dog portrait photography for their dogs.

It's crazy to think about how many dogs are out there that need homes.
Thanks bro I really appreciate it but the real heroes are the shelters staff members.

Your portrait photography could go a long way towards helping dogs get adopted for sure and along with walking dogs I’ve been helping with general facilities maintenance and improvements.

But ima have to warn you as rewarding as it is, ngl it’s also kinda depressing sometimes. It sucks having to take the dogs back to jail after you’ve walked them. It sucks to hear all the stories about how the dogs ended up there. It sucks when for whatever reason you were planning on going to volunteer that day but couldn’t so you feel bad. Same for when you’re pressed for time and can’t walk as many dogs as you’d like that visit, etc.

But it’s still worth it and now that I’m basically over whatever Covid adjacent bullshit I was suffering from I’m really looking forward to getting back to walking Milo the chill bulldog and Ulrich again along with finishing phase one of the privacy fence project
