Belgian Malinois too
Yup. There is literally a constant supply up for adoption at animal control here. All of them 1-2 years old. People get in over their heads. Literally 5-7 of them always available. Those dogs need a job

Boerboels are a better choice than a bull mastiff. Same type of dog only healthier. Serious dogs though. Not beginner dogs

I'm not the purebred dog type. I don't have a job for dogs to do at the moment.

But if I was, Craigslist would certainly NOT be the place I go to find one.
I happen to have an in law that is breeding his "Malinois", which is certainly NOT a purebred. It's pretty ridiculous.

Another great erBB thread! Now that we've veered away from the OP's original post I'll chime in here with my favorite dog...the always everybody's friend, the Golden Retriever...we've had female ones since we were first married, like 50 years ago or some sh*t...on #5 now...not wife, dog. Dogs are truly 'man's best friend'...I just wish the good ones could live longer, like #2, Bialy...she would just charge headlong into pounding shorebreak on a very rocky not beach for the stick...not be able to find it due to aforementioned pounding shorebreak and she'd be getting worked and eventually I'd have to go drag her out. That was at a spot at Shelter Cove where you had to paddle out a ways to the peak and sometimes she would just swim out there and I'd have to drag her back in. She was legend. Here's Amber, #5...q0iKvy6vRKqhJZEXkDTGrg.jpg

I even let my WIFE on the furniture, but only while watching rangers games (surf related because the rangers were clearly playing the hurricanes this past week)

Damn I miss watching rangers games. Told myself I can only pay for mlb.tv for the yanks this year. Can’t wait for the postseason when games are aired nationally

They’re super fun to watch right now

Yankees ought to be as well
Worried about starting pitching depth going into the season with both Rodon and Severino on the IL. Have a feeling we’re gonna be saying bye bye to Gleyber or Peraza real soon. Volpe is giving me a giant boner though.

Got the pickle out for his first hike since his surgery and diagnosis today. Just under 4 miles of pretty easy terrain. But still a lot for a lil dog. He did great till we got to a pond full of ducks and he lost his little mind. 2131C252-81F9-4D88-9CE1-2F2B34DD3DD2.jpeg

The shelter had been calling her “Kinsey” for the 2 weeks they had her and we thought that was just fine.

smart and super trainable. Already have her doing solid long stays and coming on the recall. Then the other two knuckleheads quickly figured out executing the behavior resulted in a treat- the quickly learned it themselves.

she is only 2, but our vet took a good look at her during her first check up with him, and he said with corgi gestation being only 60 days, and her noticeable signs of motherhood, she likely had TWO litters at the Amish mill before they abandoned her. My theory is she had two litters which both maybe produced still born or deformed puppies, and the Amish tossed her as a money looser.

she has the sunniest and calmest demeanor of nearly any dog I’ve met, but no doubt has the wisdom and maturity of a 2 time mother. Our dogs are well behaved, but far more childish and skittish and twerpy than the 2 year old who has already been a mother 1 or even 2 times, in a barn behind some Amish guys other, warmer barn.

Nothing fazes her and she is just totally pleased to be in a warm loving home. She’s probably seen some sh!t bro. Those Amish puppy millers are pretty notorious apparently. They keep the breed(s) pure but leave them in horrid conditions and discard poor earners.

An average sized Lancaster county puppy mill of 50-100 dogs generates about $500,000 a year. There are some articles about the Amish puppy breeding um, phenomenon. Nearly every, single, Amish-dominant county in the US (didn’t realize there were still so many, spread far beyond the PA and Ohio counties) has a staggering number of puppy mills per capita.

im not even anti breeding, and they aren’t (getting caught) breaking any laws, since their operations are covered as agricultural. I don’t even mind the large scale of these operations (the big ones have hundreds of dogs in crates in huge metal barns) but they could at the very least treat the dogs FAR more humanely with very little effect on their bottom line. Oh, also, killing bitches after you have literally bred them dry in a crate out back- that’s just monstrous.

apparently very few breed bitches are ever rescued- they’re bred every single heat cycle until they either die, or dry up, at which point they are killed. At least give them a chance. Have big adoption rallies. Get some positive PR to offset the simple fact that they treat these animals, whether it’s legal or not, in a manner that most modern westerners find abhorrent.

Of course there is a huge market for pure breeds like corgis and other popular toy breeds and the funny new crossovers etc.that’s why these guys make so much money from big but bare bones milling Operations. And the demand WILL be served, one way or another, but it can easily and profitably be done, even at scale; with far more humanity.

maybe they could open up their ops to tourists and let kids romp and play with young mothers and puppies, let everyone have Some fun before it’s back to bumping, birthing, and whelping

Here is a more cheerful post after that gloomy send up of the Amish puppy mill practices
