Next year will be King Slater's final ride on tour. What a career and life he's led.

I agree, but I also think he's quite a few rungs smarter than the average pro sports athlete. He seems to have done well living within his means and not splurging on jets and hyper cars. Not to mention he probably gets to stay for free wherever he goes in the world.

Slater had to one up Parko on his retirement. It's not like he's retiring this year. Give Parko some time to celebrate his farewell tour before stealing his thunder the next day

Ill be sad to see him go. :(
However its probably not the last time we'll see him on the tour. I think he'll get a wild card for certain events (Tahiti or Pipe). So we'll see King Kelly again....
he'll probably try to qualify for 2020 olympics

Best ever, by far. Most likely the greatest (competitively) to ever come. Deserves nothing but respect and
kudos. Agree with r32 as well that he seems exponentially smarter than most pro surfers, hence his
current financial situation.

One of the all-time greats out of ALL sports. I can't even think of anyone else with such multigenerational dominance

Maybe Federer but he’s definitely in rare company

For pure dominance at the height of their careers, Tiger, Federer, Anika Sorenstam, and Stefi Graf.

NONE compare to SLATER....especially minding that other sports have competitive 40 yr olds....surfing realistically DOES NOT. P.S......ever at fifty....does ANYONE have that xfactor in bigger/sicker/gnarly waves?
