Back when Al Byrne was alive, I ordered a board from him while he was at SK's. I was told by Al it was done in month one. A 6'3" channel bottom, 19" wide and 2-3/8" thick. He took a picture of the blank and sent it to me. Said it was going to the glassers that week. I fully paid for the board.
One month goes by. Al is back in Oz and I email SK. He says it's at the glassers.
Two months go by. I email SK and am told "at the glassers."
Three months. Same.
Four months. Same.
Six months hit and I'm pissed. SK's wife sends me a pissy email and says they'll get it from the glassers and ship it up.
Seven months hits. No board. I send another pissy email. "It's being shipped this week. Pay for it and we'll ship it express." So I do.
I get it at 7-1/2 months after Al said it was done & two weeks after I paid SK extra for shipping. Box arrives with two significant screw driver looking punctures right through it. Deck and bottom punctured. Seemed pretty fucking intentional. To top it it off, it's a 6'5" chunky as f*ck six channel, about 20" or more wide and at least 2-3/4'" thick. No name on the stringer. Clearly NOT what I ordered and paid for. I'm pissed and they say blame the shipping company, not acknowledging it's not even the board I ordered and Al made me. I got it repaired, the shipping company paid for it, and I sold it immediately.
FUCK SK and his wife.
Al passed away less than a year after this. With his tragic passing, so did the chance to get a custom AB six channel. That stings a bit.
I've never told that story. I thought I was over it. Turns out, I'm not. I'm pissed again.

He def told me what I was getting for some board orders, and he was usually (always) right with his suggestions.
And he was a craftsman, I know people hated on gregs but his boards were top notch.
He never cut corners and spent a lot of time on his customers boards.
