I've had both kick and the new smooth.
My 2 new (April 2016) smooth techs are Hawaii lam and for norcal drifty beachbreak I like the weight (hawaii lam smooth prob weighs the same as 4x6 top 4 bottom PU-just by my "under the arm" test). The boards are VERY strong. I have over 100 sessions on one of the boards and when the wax is stripped you can barely tell it's been used (and I'm 200 lbs). Boards feel very solid underfoot, no chatter at all (if anything damper than PU).
My small wave board is kick and goes really well too. I had a kick 6'7 step up that was also magic (RIP). One of my new smooth techs is a replica of this (but at 6'8). Surf's just recently been big enough to use it and it has that familiar feeling with a little more weight/smoothness/dampening-I dig it.

Newest daily driver arrived last week. Was looking for a little more rail line and less outline curve than my 5'8 m80.
Went with a Blur with a touch more rocker. 5'11 x 19 3/4" x 2 1/2". 1.15 ft^3. Little extra volume should help with the winter wetsuit weight and paddling.
