My daughter who lives in Brooklyn came to Long Island to visit, and was like wow, it’s like covids not a thing out here
And, yes, it wasnt
But now it is
And the Brooklyn daughter isn’t coming back for a while
Have some friends from Europe who just arrived here - they were shocked to learn that people were still talking about covid here. It's not a hysteria in many places

porn is awesome

masturbation is not bad

I was exposed at a very young age...I think it's weird how people get all uppity about it

we're in the porn renaissance now where the performers have direct to consumer access which cuts out the exploitative bullshit which is great

The Atlantic is an extremely important publication.

TL DR an insane middle-aged UMC white wymyn blows up her family for no reason then realizes her mistake but can't bring herself to admit it was a mistake:
But houseless, husbandless, half the nights childless, I had never felt so exposed, out there on the cliff face of single life. I tried to pretend I wasn’t scared, but I was. Twice, trying to keep track of the kids in the park by myself, I lost my oldest son. He ran ahead to the playground, and I lost him. I looked and looked, and then I shouted his name, and then I panicked. One time, someone else’s husband finally helped me find him. Honey, help that poor woman, his wife probably told him. They felt sorry for me and I didn’t care—I was abject with gratitude. I knelt and took my son’s shoulders in my hands and shook him gently, and talked in my serious, quaking voice about how we needed to be safer.
Now imagine her COVID response.

1/12/22........ the day IFlee stopped worrying and learned to love the Atlantic.

Broken clocks

Since the Cathedral is now outputting what many of us have been saying since the beginning makes the tinfoil hat in me say that they've lost the public and are now trying to reel themselves back into favor

So the Cathedral is anything you disagree with? Fits right in with your angry teenager world view.

Midterms are coming . . . . Time to change the narrative so that by November, they pretend it's what they've been saying all along :drowning:

or, you know, we were presented with a new problem, we fumbled with it for a bit, learned some stuff, and now we've figured out the path forward...

how can humans ever contend with novel events, which the universe is extremely good at presenting, if every one of them is framed as some conspiratorial ruse or power play for wold dominance?

It's the end of the wold as we know it
It's (it's the) end of the wold as we know it
It's (it's the) end of the wold as we know it
And I feel fine

and that'll do what, exactly? Really, what's been the strategy? I remember pre-election that COVID was a liberal scam meant to defeat Trump. Then the dems did what - made us wear masks for a while in an effort to what? And now moving away from that position does what? Who changes their vote now because of it?

$.02

Governor Murphy barely squeaked by in New Jersey. The State Senate President lost to some rando - might have been GromsDad.

I think no more government anti-Covid measures to comply with in November helps the (D) chances. Florida is the most important swing state in the nation. The (D) lost it in 2020 in large part because voters in Dade County thought Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were too socialist, but they voted for $15/hr minimum wage, which is well to the left of Biden/Harris.

IMHO Joe Biden was supposed to be competent re:Covid, which means remove inconvenience from people's lives. Having schools closed was a massive pain in the ass for all the parents I know.

I don't know that this changes votes today, but not having a drumbeat about requirements and restrictions removes a tangible, real-world frustration point that could be relevant in November. The (D) want to STFU and let the GOP's base look crazy banging on about Stop the Steal to mitigate the midterm damage.

YMMV but if I still have to present a negative Covid test to return to the US next summer, I'm voting for DeSantis because that's the closest I can come to saying F__K YOU to the Biden Administration by enforcing electoral consequences, and I don't care if he wants to serve grilled manatee and holy water for public school lunch.
