Hi all,

For professional reasons, I will spend several months in Tahiti.

My planned Quiver :
- 5'8 Chris Christenson Fish : for beachbreaks and reef when small ;
- 5'10 Flat Earth Slater Surfboard : for beachbreak & reef (2' to 4');
- 6'6 Black Beauty CI : for angry reef (7'+) but not the gnarliest tahitian waves (teahupoo..).

I don't intend to take my 6'2 Red Beauty which works very well in many condition but it doesn't like the barrel (BIG squash tail..).
So I end up with a hole between 5' and 6'.

Planned board (stock): 6' 2 x 19' 5/8" x 2' 11/16" Ghost Pyzel (32l) for my intermediate level (5'10 & 175lbs).

What do you think?

Thanks in advance guys!

Depending on your ability and preference for waves, you should be just fine on a range between a 5'8 and 6'6. That is unless you plan to charge some of the passes when they get some real size on them. I have surfed most all of the waves on Tahiti and Moorea with nothing bigger than a 6'2. But I am not charging big Teahupo'o. Plenty of fun passes and beach breaks to surf on Tahiti. Moorea is all reef passes. If you don't have a boat, get ready for some long and gnarly paddles if you don't time the tide changes just right. The edges of the passes are sharky, mostly black tip and grey reefs, but every now and then a big Lemon or Tiger will pass by and get your attention. Lucky you!

Thank you Eimeo !
It's not very easy to get informations about Tahitian waves and your feedback is very useful.
Indeed, I have heard some stories about big tooth sharks which sleep in passes thank to the outgoing current, must be something !
Have a nice day.

My buddy stayed there for a few months and brought an inflatable SUP to help deal with the long paddles.

He bought it for that trip and sold it immediately after, but it made a lot of sense out there.

There's a few spots over there I would not SUP to, tie off and paddle to the line up. Seen some of the locals not take too kindly to those that can't make the paddle all the way out the way they did. Be mindful if you try that and just show up. I would wait for a friendly gesture to join in. I've seen more than a few fellas get sent straight back to where they boated in from, even those that paddled an outrigger out to certain spots, tied off, grabbed their boards and paddled into the line up. They were kindly escorted back and sent to shore.

Yeah, it was more the lifestyle of moving around the lagoons and shallows, getting to the boats from the beach, cruising the reef. Not so much as transport to the lineup.

The 2 times I visited FP I bummed rides out to the passes with SWAG for the locals (leashes, trunks, wax, fishing tackle etc.)
For the most part everyone was pretty cool (I was solo).
The only stink eye I ever encountered was out at Fiti Pass on Huahine from one little angry local.
The Froggies on the other hand were a PITA.
