All the time bro, I was having all kinds of trouble keeping my eyes open in the barrel until I tried my goggles. Now I get barreled and actually see it. It is awesome man. I strongly recommend speedo kind with the dark lenses and cinch 'em up real tight like so that they don't get ripped off by the foam ball.

Used to, late 80's, especially on Indo trips, for sun protection and to see the bottom when needed.
Felipe Pomar and some guys still do it.
Makes for some funny looking photos.

Especially in the summer I always wanted some "shades" that had an attachment to my vest or something so I could only use them while I was waiting for waves, then take em off and let them hang there while I surfed.

it'll probably be standard equipment for us current younger-ish guys when we reach our golden surfing years due to years of sun exposure and a potentially stronger sun in the future due to all the pollution

on a more serious note...I'd like to get my brother surfing
but he wears contacts.

prescription goggles seem viable and I've seen a few folks
wear them, but I wonder if you're doomed to kookdom if you
sport them...

I surf with contacts...goggles yeah right. you just get used to it and get a feel for when you're contacts are about to be washout.. like trying to fit in a barrel and the lip flushes both contacts and you have to finish the rest of your session near blind...sorry if i dropped in on someone

There was this one kneeboarder in LA when I was in my teens. He had balding on top whitedude jerry curls, and always wore these big ass goggles. We used to call him the fly. He ripped tho.

I see guys wearing eye black sometimes during afternoon sessions. The sun is brutal this time of year--I doubt that actually works but who knows I've still yet to see a surfer wearing eyeblack with a custom message on it though ScrubIT KOOK!
