Article: Why can't pop culture get surfing right?

Worth a read, and an interesting comment from a former Surfer Mag editor under the article too...

Anyway, what's your favourite surf-related book, song, and film? Bonus question - favourite surf doc/movie.

I'm not going definitive, but off the top of my head:

Book: Caught Inside by Daniel Duane. He got it.
Song: Badfish by Sublime (Duh...)
Film: Point Break - The original movie is just a classic!
Surf doc: This Time Tomorrow (Step Into Liquid runs it close though!)

Your turn...

I remember reading Caught Inside a long time ago.

the guy struck me as being pretty humble and not so cliche.

I had profoundly mixed feelings about that book. Certain passages reeked of yuppie smugness and classism. Also: KOOOOOOOOOOOK!

The guy is a pretty good writer, though.

When North Shore and Point Break came out, most surfers hated those films; they were sorta embarrassing and a misrepresentation.

I embraced the cheese of Point Break!

Barbarian Days is great, so are Breath, the Dora book, Occy's, etc. I just really liked Daniel Duane's style of writing.

Book: In Search of Captain Zero - can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet.

Yet they can still quote half of the lines :roflmao: Too cool to admit they like it, Point Break especially might just be the biggest guilty pleasure in surf culture.

Plus who can forget the pitbull punt gem :confused2: :roflmao:
