I got taxed for my leash by the reef today { i swear my luck with leashes this winter sucks...its the 5th one I sh it you not}

it was really small..maybe 2 ft,but super clean little tubes every few minutes,,got a bunch of really nice cover -ups

anyways, I rode one kinda too far and ended up kinda close to the rocks..no big deal I thought.

as I started to paddle back out I felt it snag the bottom { its happened before..but I always manage to free it by swimming down and un-hooking it.

but there was a full on river moving sideways in inches of water..I tried to shake it loose but it was anchored to the bottom I even tried to make it snap by letting it pull to about 15 feet..but it was a brand new 6 ft thicky..it just wouldn`t budge.

It coulda been serious if I didnt do somthin quick..although, I felt totally calm thoughout the ordeal...I just feel so comfortable at this spot {I surf it almost everyday..I know the bottom of the reef better than a best freind} so I just kinda played with it for a little while,trying to see if it would yank loose by it self...no way, I was stuck good.

I had to release the velcro ankle strap while holding my board with the other arm{if I let go my board and it got free my board woulda ended up in the rocks.

its kinda hard to reach down to your ankle when your stuck in a river..but I finally got it off

I could see people on the cliffs yelling and pointing,but I just laughed cause it didnt scare me,I`ve been through far worse when it was 5 times as big plus I`m a good swimmer..I tried to let the leash snap again by letting it stretch to almost 20 ft ..but it just would not snap.

I finally got the velcro undone on the leash plug and all of a sudden I was free as a bird ..it felt good to get out of that situation without a scatch {suprisingly} cause the reef is really sharp and I was rolling around down there for a while.

I paddled back out and surfed some more leashless...pretty dumb ,but I had to redeem myself..actually got my meanest snap of the morning on the first wave

already got another one for tommorow..hope it lasts,its suposed to get big again..

weird..I`ve been manhandled by the ocean ,but never been straight up jacked for equipment...it was like the reef wanted that leash so bad it wouldn`t take no for an answer.

Kind like when some poop-fish swallows your best lure, and then his poop-fish brother comes and swallows your second best lure ten minutes later. At least they're biting, and at least the reef didn't want you ... it's only a leash, right?

Oh man I wasn't really laughing, no way not at a guy snagged in a river... but had it been me, I'd hope I could laugh about it. I don't recall laughing the last time I lost my two favorite lures though, and spent much of this year using a leash that had worn out velcro and always got ripped off anyway because I never remembered I needed one when I had an extra $30, which I never had anyway so no way am I laughing at ya, but throw karma out the window and I can definitely see the ironic humor in your situation today. My situation is just plain sad .
