90s in the water. He wasn't Slater but he was a damn good surfer and did a real good job of high performance surfing and keeping speed. Yeah the land affect was a bit Joe Motion but nice to have that variety in the Poor Specimen videos.
His combo of throwback style and high performance was always unique and cool to me. And his collection of boards. According to Pat O'Connell, Donavon is "the world champion of weird boards".

I don't know it took this long to think of Donavon, but Donavon. Probably my favorite surfer still, definitely was growing up.
Donavon still ripping...cool, straight up guy...out at my local during the big swell last week...broke this one in the AM. Was out in the PM ripping on a tail dinged retro light blue single fin and styling...rare for guys today riding boards like that! Enjoy that stuff best as a guy a bit older than him!
