trying to decide between a 5-8 and a 5-10

I'm turning 40 next week and buying myself a new board

normal HPSB ia about 30 liters

62 170 lbs.

is it better to get one slightly bigger for extended grovel range?

Speed Dialers changed my surfing life. They are my main boards these days.
I do have a 7'0 rounded pin
a 6-3" Jeff Clark Squash tri
my main boards are 5'9" poly quan dialer
a plant based epoxy 5'9 dialer
a "step up" (I know I'll get laughs for this) 6'0 Pavel dialer pretty thick glass job - I use for up to double overhead (not blacks of course).

If it's sizable I'm not like truth seeking out death bombs...more power to him though the guys kills it.

I do like sizeable surf to a limited extent but can honestly say I would rather go out with the 6-0 dialer in 7-10-12 foot faces super consistent stuff than break out the 7-0" rounded pin.

I'm getting wiser as I age - no desire to surf death bombs any longer. Never really did actually. :tongue2:

I get it. never had a speed dialer (sounds like I need one), ride a 5'10 quadfish mostly. for a while my step up was a 5'9 zippi - it held better on steeper waves, but now I ride my quad on almost anything, bust out a hpsb for when its throwing hard.

I think it depends on the length of board you like. I have had a 5'8" and two 5'10"s. Honestly the 5'10"s fit my natural stance better as I'm 6'1". I am riding shorter boards now and the 5'8" would probably be preferred.

The 5'10" also caught waves easier. Once up and riding they both performed very similar.

There's another thread on here where a guy was trying to make that choice. He went with the shorter length and said it was the right call.

Had 2 Toby's boards over the years.

10/10 Would hit again in a more modern construction.

Personally would ride 2" longer than your fish. Covers more range.

6'1" 210 and 6'0" was spot on.
