Compare these two images of the Alps seen from Venice, Italy. The Alps are about 40 miles away. I saw it a few times like the first photo. It would have to be really clear and you'd have to have a really goo telephoto but I've seen many versions of the second photo.
One more to illustrate the point and then I'll walk away-
Same. My dad still lives above the Malaga CV library right there. never seen anything like that. Went to jr high on the cliff there too.

Click on the blue down arrow drop down on the left & go to maps and play with the location of the shot...
I located it as a guess at the parking lot here...
