I must've seen more of him over a longer period than any other pro, and what always strikes me and what does in this clip is that he's always experimenting with boards, and his boards are always doing a particular thing on such a high level and other things not. Like here the speed he's getting deflecting off of those deliberately late lip hits is so crazy, but his flow between turns is struggling. obviously it's a mediocre, section-y point, but to me at least his board seems to be so tuned for just that one thing. maybe it's not the board, maybe he's just focused on that particular part of the ride, idk, but his surfing seems more hot and cold/flashes of brilliance than other high level guys.
