My kids have pulled the ol switcheroo on me and have been sk8ing almost every day. Mostly ditching their surfboards (for now) along the way. I'm stoked because skating is super fun and we do it together as a family. The annual winter trip for waves or snow has shifted towards taking the van out for a week in search of the best skateparks. We are in SD and plan to drive east AZ NM maybe west TX or North to Santa Cruz/SF etc. Let me know where you would go. We have a week.

Mahalo,

Havasu park looks pretty epic, haven't been though.

Nor have I been to SLO, Los Osos, and Ojai, but if you decide to go the CA route they look cool.

I have skated the Solvang park. It's fun with a weird two tiered bowl area. Not too much for street skating (not sure what you and the kids are into). I hear it gets crowded on the weekends, but during the middle of the week I was the only one there. Lots of good food/beer/wine in the area if you're bringing anyone who doesn't wanna skate.

The Bay has tons of parks. Berkeley is big with a nice mix of stuff. Emeryville is fun, funky. And there's a bunch more in Oakland and the City.

Hope that helps, have fun!

I'd skip New Mexico and West Texas around Christmas. El Paso is a long way and Albuquerque and Santa Fe are a bit brisk for outdoor skateparks that time of year imho.

Good suggestions guys. We've been to the Los Osos park, its rad. But, not the others. Solvang is a great lil town I'd love to check out, too.

Thanks, Belch

Pacifica is actually pretty fun, too. And then you can enjoy a chalupa as you watch the waves roll over a sea of soft tops.

I have never been but heard great things from skate friends who have. Looks like a fun park plenty to skate.

Thanks for all the advice, guys. We're gonna hit Solvang, SLO, Las Osos, Lake Cunningham, Santa Cruz (not sure which ones yet) and spend a couple days cruising SF. Brining surfboards, too. Just in case there are waves. Holler if you're around these parts and want to shred the gnar, haha.

Holy hell that's gonna be epic. I would replace Solvang with Ojai though from what I've heard.

If you’re driving north, hit the Pedlow pool, in Encino.
Not particularly gnar, but it’s deep, fast, and fun.

Greer, Burgess, Lake Cunningham, Mike Fox, Marina, Patriot, Morro Bay, Solvang, San Clemente and Martin Luther King Skateparks. 6 nights sleeping in the van, 10 Sk8parks, 1 sore wrist (mine, of course), some crusty tacos and warm beers. 2 stocked kids, 2 equally stoked parents, 1000+ miles. Met some cool people along the way. Hit a few "off the beaten path" parks and feel like we scored with low crowds and good weather.

Looks like you had a blast wish I would've skated more over break. You enjoy Solvang? Next time up check out Dos Pueblos ranch the orchid it has indoor ramps and nice half pipe on a ranch right off the beach and is private. Just saw video of friends 9 year old son killing it on double spine ramp looks super fun still have not skated it yet.

Solvang was great. The bowls there are really unique, but once you figure out a couple lines, it's a blast. My kids weren't as impressed. My oldest daughter rode the smaller bowl, but was a lil sketched out about the deep end.

Lake Cunningham was by far the best park on the list. So fuggin big, there were so many ramps and bowls and ledges and a fullpipe. Epic spot worth checking out.

We'll have to check out Dos Pueblos next time we're up in SB County, looks fun. Have you been?
