It started with a heroic effort from a 15-year Jersey City police detective trying to arrest suspects in a murder investigation. It ended four hours later with six people dead following a "rapid and continuous” police standoff, officials said.
Detective Joseph Seals, a member of the Jersey City Cease Fire Unit, approached a vehicle near the Bayview Cemetery on Garfield Avenue that was reportedly linked to a homicide in Bayonne on Saturday night, NBC New York reported.
The news outlet said a suspect exited the vehicle and fatally shot Seals before driving away. It’s unclear what time this incident occurred.
Authorities chased the vehicle about a mile through the streets of Jersey City, ending at a JC Kosher Supermarket at 223 Martin Luther King Dr.
At 12:30 p.m., police received 911 calls of shots fired in that area.
Andy Patel, a clerk at a nearby liquor store, told NBC4 New York there was constant gunfire for about an hour.
“Then it stopped for like 20 or 30 minutes,” he said.
The two suspects would keep the police at bay for four hours.
“We’re not going to go into details of four hours of police work,” Jersey City Police Chief Michael Kelly told reporters. “The movement was rapid and continuous for four hours within that area.”
As constant gunfire erupted in broad daylight on a bustling stretch in the Greenville neighborhood, all Jersey City schools were placed on lockdown. Children were released from their schools at 4:15 p.m., more than two hours after they were locked down.
No children were injured.
Inside the supermarket, the two suspects were found dead in addition to three citizens.
“We started to piece some information together,” Kelly told reporters at a 6 p.m. news conference. “The investigation will take weeks, maybe months.”

Suspect in Jersey City Linked to Black Hebrew Israelite Group (Published 2019)

I feel so unfulfilled upon the realization that I had to go to Topeka so many times for work and I didn't even drive by the Westboro Church let alone throw up some creative graffiti.
The best way to get guns off the streets is to have a gun recycling operation where junkies can trade them in for cash, no questions asked.
They will be off the street faster than copper wire was liberated from Trona. And in the cases where they get shot for trying to pry them out of warm hands instead of cold, well, one less junkie.
Once everything has equilibrated a bit, then just cancel that policy.
Less guns in hands of criminal/frivolous owners and great reduction in street trash. Winning all around.
