Sharpeye disco feels amazing so far. First sesh went Rasta twin/trailer. Felt great. Definitely on the loose side but for the flat faced reef waves it was a blast. 2nd session today at the same wave I ran a quad setup. Pyzel control M fronts, nvs JC rears. Fark me it felt good. Stiffened it up a little bit but really added to the drive and control. I rarely ride a shortboard at this spot because all of the curve is in the upper half of the wave and it can be frustrating trying to generate speed and fit in turns on such a burger but I never felt like i was looking for speed and I was actually finding good turn sections. Been a while since I've ridden a quad shortboard and I'd forgotten how good they are for holding speed through turns. No issues with trackiness or trouble pivoting or anything.

The shape itself is somewhat of a trip. If I'm honest I was expecting something a little more chunky or at least wider up front since it's listed as a "hybrid". The nose is only 12 inches wide. Tail is like 14 7/8" so not super wide either. Very foiled throughout. Maybe a little extra thickness up through the nose but nothing crazy. So far it feels pretty mindless to surf though. The rocker is so familiar feeling after having an i72 and Disco Cheater. Similar feeling speed and glide to the disco cheater but it's more of a blade and there's no nose to catch in critical sections.

6'1 x 19.6 x 2.6 32.6L (supposedly, feels like less) XTR 10.0 glassed, SL-C, flex value 5

The Inferno 72 that my son struggled with as mentioned on the first page or two of this thread became his go to board this fall after sitting on the board rack for half of 2022. Don't know if it was him adapting to the board, fin changes or a little more growth adding a few more pounds that overcame a sizing issue but he's been on an absolute tear on this thing lately.

I like this kind of validation in my board preferences.

This is exactly why you shouldn't get rid of a board after only a few surfs on it.

Pretty good first session on the Disco Cheater this afternoon. Waves were head high to a little overhead with offshore wind blowing about 20mph. Not the most ideal conditions to be riding an EPS Epoxy Groveler for the first time. Also first session of the season in a 4/3 boots and gloves.......and definitely needed warmer gear than what I had on even.

The board is a radical departure from what I've been riding both in size and that this one is the e2 EPS Epoxy. I've lost almost 30 pounds and gotten in shape so I picked up a regular Disco in the summer that was about 4 Liters less than what I'd been riding and that board was still a little too big for the lighter me. The new Cheater is another 2 liters less in volume and 4 inches shorter than the Disco. For the first half of the session I was struggling to get my feet in the right spots and trying to get the feel of an extremely light board in the stiff offshores. Towards the end I started to get the feel of it and the thing goes like a bat out of hell.

For comparison here are the tails of the Disco and the new much smaller Cheater on the rack.

Have you guys tried a Gremlin? Curious your thoughts on how the disco cheater compared if you did. Can't remember if Ruka had one before. Seems like a similar outline

Comparing the dims I would expect the cheater to perform a little more like a high performance board as the Gremlin is wider and thicker than the cheater of comparable length. Also looks like the tail on the Cheater has more curve to it.

I had a narrower xtr gremlin I liked a lot at one point that got a ton of miles on it. Eventually an Aipa replaced it because it does some things better but it was a great board. Might have to take a look at the cheater at some point.

found a Disco Cheater in my size at a shop. It's got 3 fin boxes. Is it worth it ordering a custom to get 5-fin boxes and potentially a stronger glass job?
