Any numbness?

The first thing to consider is overuse.

I would try to look for trigger points.

In the quads and hamstrings.

Get an MRI. Hope it doesn’t turn out like this:

If it does, hope you have good insurance and are in a place with the most modern tech possible.

Say hello to my new friend. You don’t want to know.

Get it taken care of before you’re dry docked for life.

I find a 3-5 pound bag of epson salt in a hot bathtub calms it down - not a long term fix but provides short term relief - there is some research that says low magnesium levels contributes to it - I take a multi vitamin - also stretch out your psoas muscle - guaranteed its tight as fuck - no tight belts on your waist - comfortable shoes w arch support - lastly most back pain comes from external stress in your life -

Can you paraphrase what the good Dr. has to say about structural damage to the l5/s1 vertebrae with the disk bulging out impinging on the nerve? Thanks in advance!

Imaging wouldn't be a bad idea.

But I would get a good trigger point person to work on trigger points.

If it's trigger points you'll know right away.

I would also work the psoas.

Overuse? What's a man to do? Stop surfing?

Trigger points? Cue Von Meister ridicule in 3,2,1...

No easy fixes. Whatever you choose to do it has to become a life style change, something you do consistently for the rest of your days.

If you have a lot of free time read this thread-

i Don’t remember
I read the book a loooooong time ago
i think he said that reading the book doesn’t cure all back pain and there are structural damage scenarios that fall into that category

while waiting at the doctors office to see if there’s structural damage causing sciatica, truth could read the book
i don’t know that it could make anything worse

That's the situation for me - permanent life style changes and prescribed a multiple treatment/multiple exercise approach. I've never had sciatica, but my lower back was very fragile about 15 years ago.

The 10-myths thread is good because it has accounts from a number of us and shows how we have had our back rehabilitated using a variety of different methods/treatments with varying degrees of success.

My back was “fragile” for around 10 years
then I read the book
it actually was an easy fix
i was as big a sceptic as anyone
im still a sceptic, but it worked for me and others I know, so now I’m more of a cynic than sceptic

reading a book is cheap and easy
it may help, it may not help, but it’s unlikely to make your pain worse

i rarely sit on board - i float w arms on deck

i got hit by a car a few years back and messed up my alignment - was just in sumbawa and saw a healer and he said i am so out of whack

dude worked on me for about an hour and a half - back in the water two days later - usually out for a week

need to read Sarno and get back on yoga daily

thanks for the suggestions
