D. Work with our allies and the global community to maintain a delicate balance. The answer isn't to crush Russia with force, nor is it to let Putin run wild with his troops all over Eastern Europe.

What is best is to crush the Russians, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

yup.

i think all the chest-thumping by Russia is just a show. they've built a Potemkin Village and now they're trying to figure out how to save face and not look weak.

the western countries are trying to goad them into invading because they realize that Russia can't afford a war or an insurgency and that revealing this would weaken Russia.

If Putin looks weak or if Russians begin to suffer, Putin loses because they're not going to stand behind him forever. And if western media ever crept into Russia its all over for Putin.

The west knows that Russia could really fvck some sh!t up if it wanted but that would result in disaster for Russia too.

Maybe the US is throwing Putin a bone letting him March on the pro-Russia region(s) of Ukraine and letting him save face with his people while also staving off a widespread annexation, with the hope that his power starts to slip over the next few years.

Short term: Not much the West can do. Show NATO and EU solidarity, build up forces in Baltics and Poland. Sanctions.
Medium term (post-Putin): Incentivize Russia to integrate with the West, thereby dropping sanctions.
Long term: Contain Russia.

Or maybe not. Don’t expect for him to come crawling back for forgiveness. For anything.

I think NATO and the EU are more united than ever before. I suspect Putin thought those two organizations would continue their fractiousness and is unpleasantly surprised at their unity. A unified NATO and EU are nothing but bad news for Vlad.

A hot war with Russia has a high probability of causing the global demise of human civilization.

They're already doing what should be done and is not a poll option. Tough sanctions and positioning forces to defend NATO allies (which Ukraine isn't)
