Loved my Rocket! Want to try something little different now. Has anyone made the switch??

For me I think It is between Black Sheep, Scorch It, Blunt or Double Blunt(dont like wings much though.

Where I am coming from is that Rocket went well for me when there was slight juice to even 10 faces in good point reef. I need more focus in sub par waves and catching them and I'm willing to sacrifice some of the higher end capabilities of the Rocket to gain some more performance in grovely style waves. Would like it to be able to hang when good too though. I guess I want something that paddles/catches a little better/easier with similiar feeling to the Rocket but I want to try something new as well.

BTW tried the Impalla and really was disapointed and could not find one good thing about it. felt way to big but mostly think it was the model that did not suit me.

Thanks for input!!!

I was eyeing a Scorchit today. No funds right now though. I already have RNF so was thinking of the Scorchit after trying a friends Rocket. Not liking FCS plugs though. With channel, I am not sure if fusion boxes would work. Maybe futures but all my fins are FCS. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

My vote right now is Scorchit. Anyone have one?

Of those I like the look of blacksheep best. But you could try just getting a rocket with a tiny bit more volume. I love mine in grovel waves, I think I ordered it a bit fuller than some people do. Big side fins and a moderate back fin helps a lot as well.

Could also look at F1Stub.

Yes!

"...exact nose outline, rocker and foil that made the Rocket’s so fast, smashed together with the Sub-Scorcher’s wide tailed, flat rocker to vee combo. The rear outline and rocker both become straighter than the Rocket..."

Is that a comparison? Outlines don't even look similar...

I have a blacksheep coming any day now. The board spoke to me. Looks like it's gonna go really well as an all purpose groveler (for me).

You are correct , way different.

Blacksheep looks more like a HP design , curious to here how it does on the low end for average people .

I think you will kill it on the BS.

I do think those designs look different and i'm actually trying to find who has tried one of these newer designs coming off a rocket. Rocket is insane just really want to try something newer to freshen my stoke a little and could use more help in poor waves. Was considering Blunt as well but that recent post/review has me thinking that it is different that I thought. Thanks

If I was you, I'd be looking at the Motivator - but - it's more of a pure groveler than the other boards you've mentioned. Looks like it would be a seamless transition for the rocket rider.

I got an early Scorch-it, it's got the deep single concave out the tail instead of the single channel. Great board, loves to carve and super fast. It felt a little sticky at first with futures F4 fins, but I switched them up to tokoro sides and a tt1 trailer, this added drive and loosened it up nicely. I went with a 5'8 x 19 x 2.13 Keahana epoxy, I'm 5'8 x 160. Overall I like the board a lot, but I feel like it might be a little too big for me, I might sell this one and get a 5'6 x 19 x 2.13 instead.

I've gotta agree with you on the "Motivator", plenty of volumne, wide outline, low rocker and thick=good groveller!

Been riding one as my go to board in NJ (use a different couple of boards when in Australia) and I basically didn't need to ride a longboard since!

I was looking at buying a Black Sheep. Should these boards be ridden as small as a RNF or Rocket?
I am 6'0, 175. I/m 38, I don't do airs (at least come anywhere near landing them), and I'm looking for a board I can ride as a quad for speed, hacks, and beating out sections. Something I can also ride in smaller (chest to head high) East Coast beach break barrels.

Thanks.

WHat is the optimal size for me for the Black Sheep??

So none have tried blacksheep or scorchit coming from rocket? Motivator would be good but to limited to the low end, where I surf can throw all kinds at you. but like i started off with something just under rockets grovel ability would be just right I think, then handle some head high plus solid nugs too. Looks like mattis tweaking some of the double blunts to be all aronders maybe someone has tried that?

Yeah, I had a rocket didn't like it in really weak stuff. I drive hard off the front foot, you really have to weight the tail for it to turn, I would get a black sheep, seems like less kick in the tail so you can turn from farther up

For you I would go 5'10, im about 6'1 180 and would go 5'8. Since your older you probably don't want a super short board, but I wouldn't go shorter than 5'8 if I were you. 5'10 should be perfect for your needs
