He, his friends and his neighbors built that road.

Obama did what you're attempting to do, and say his words were taken out of context. He was
really talking about roads. Wrong. If you listen IN CONTEXT Obama was railing against
successful people, talking about how everything small businessmen do is attributable to
government.

Bullshit. Government is a servant of the people.

People "did that".

You had your retard goggles on when you watched that. The infrastructure that keeps that business in operation is what Obama was talking about, you know it and I know it. Now pull your head out of your ass, I know it feels good but your breath is starting to stink.

And without our ever increasing tax dollars, how would the government over-spend to build that hi-way? (when it probably could've been built by independent contractors for half the total cost)

Are you that dense? Who do you think gets the contracts for these types of projects? I'll give you one guess. Private contractors. The gov't only bankrolls it.

My brother in law builds and repairs bridges for a living. He works for a company called MOWAT in the PacNW and he works primarily on Gov't funded jobs. But he's not paid by the gov't. He's paid by MOWAT.

Mowat Construction Company is a West Coast Heavy/Highway Contractor founded in 1964. Our clients include the federal and state governments, counties, cities, and various others. Projects range from $500,000 to $100,000,000 including:

-Concrete and steel bridges
-Rehabilitating structures with seismic retrofits and deck overlays
-Remodeling bridges by adding lanes to meet traffic demands
-Constructing nuclear waste storage facilities
-Transit malls
-Light Rail
-Urban parks
-Industrial projects

We are licensed in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Mowat is proud of our ability to meet the demands of various specifications and disciplines through the development of constructive solutions. As a result, we have received numerous awards for excellence in concrete construction.

Mowat believes our success comes from the integrity, passion and strong work ethic of our team members. The collective history and expertise they bring to work each day is among our greatest assets. Through a continued focus on training, education and career development of our team members, we will continue to thrive and grow in our chosen markets.

From our inception, we’ve been proud to operate as a union general contractor, drawing personnel from the qualified members of various unions. All of our team members, from our crafts people, to our engineers, managers, safety coordinators, quality assurance managers, project administrators, accounting and finance personnel provide us the key elements to perform successfully in a highly competitive and technical industry.

Above all, we are committed to a safe and productive work environment for our entire team. A safe jobsite ensures project success. More importantly, a safe jobsite also ensures that our employees return home to their families each night.

Here's one my brother-in-law worked on...

Fremont Bridge Approach Replacement

Client/Owner: City of Seattle Department of Transportation
Location: Seattle, WA
Cost: $24,000,000 (Total Contract Value)

The Fremont Bridge was constructed in 1917. Spanning the Lake Washington Ship Canal, this bascule bridge provides only 30 feet of clearance without opening. Marine traffic dictates raising the bridge about 35 times a day, making it one of the busiest bascule bridges. This project involved removing and replacing the bridge approaches including foundation and substructure, mechanical and electrical bridge systems, and new and improved traffic signals. In order to keep vehicular traffic moving through the area, four lanes were reduced to two and the substructure was built prior to demolition of each half (lengthwise) of the approach. The North Approach included 500 feet of precast concrete girders; the South Approach 160 feet of bulb tee girders. Overall there was a total of 820 feet in the approaches. Operation of the bridge opening was maintained with a temporary winch and motors while the old motors were replaced. New drives weighing approximately 26,000 lbs each were hoisted through a small opening in the abutment walls.

Government contracts are alway cush, and union (MOWAT) bids always come out on top. If a true, private, non-union bids out lower, more often than not the union contractor gets it anyway, because of close (incestuous) ties between government and unions.

Our tax dollars built those roads. We pay every fricken day to drive those roads. Yes, our tax dollars pay for those union jobs that include great pensions, early retirement and cushy health bennys. Almost as well (if not more) as public employees.

Yes, we built that. Obama didn't.

Who the fvck do you think the gov't represents? What you and Squidley are showing here is a fundamental lack of understanding of gov't and how things work. Again if the gov't didn't fund things like interstates and roadways who the fvck would? They're costly endeavors that are terrible short term investments that no business would independently take on. There's no direct profit.

And thanks for indirectly acknowledging why the GOP is opposed to any investment in our infrastructure. The obvious reason is that it would people back to work and make Obama look good. But the other is that the people going back to work would be skilled union workers. Workers for unions that the GOP and their financiers are actively trying to break. It's a win win for the party that hates america. Break the unions and keep people out of work through the election.

Union workers are skilled workers. I know you'd love to hire any schmoe for sub-minimum wage to do these jobs but aside for the obvious safety ramifications of shoddy construction of a bridge do you understand the cost of redoing things on these projects when they're done incorrectly? I've heard horror stories of $20 million structures being demolished and starting them starting over. It happens. And it'll happen a lot more if you have people doing half-assed work for half-assed wages with half-assed knowledge. You get what you pay for.

Okay let's play it your way. The Lecturer in Chief is telling business owners how they became successful because they obviously have no clue how they woke up one day... in business for themselves.

And of course Obama should know because he read it in a book at Columbia.

Stupid business owners everywhere would have built their operations in cornfields, wondering why the customers never show, if not for this liberal genius.

Do you see how absolutely retarded that interpretation is? I'm pretty sure you don't.

I have a hard time believing any of you believe the crap you're spewing. I think this whole "you didn't build it" is an intentionally dishonest debate. As I asked in a previous thread on the matter do you think a company like fedex could exist as a company that brings in $39 billion in revenue per year without the federal gov't?

In fact, that's exactly what they tried to do for years. Until Obama explained how it really works. Captain obvious saves the day.

If you're successful, you took a risk in starting that business. The government didn't take that risk. Businesses don't just automatically succeed. Look at the $500 million Obama threw at Solyndra for a small example of wasted taxpayer "stimulus" funds. Why didn't they succeed? Was it because govermment didn't help them enough to get off the ground? Did they use the wrongs roads to ship their products?

Face it. Obama stepped away from the teleprompter on that one, and fell face first into a pile of dog sh*t. Even if you think he was taken out of context by all the "dumb business owners" out there, and that it takes elites like you guys to decipher and spin his words, he was a terrible communicator in getting his supposed "message" across.

He was pandering to his base in that ad-lib speech. He was in gospel desciple mode there, Reverend Wright style, thru and thru. He was on a roll, tele-evangelical style, and his crowd was eating it up. They say "yes" to everything he says. He could say the sky is green, and they would agree. The typical Obama-zombies. O-ba-ma, O-ba-ma, O-ba-ma.

The government has a role in society and you better think about what you just said here before you start bitching again about big government and how you have to pay taxes. His business would not exist without the government and tax payers money, you admitted it yourself in this post.

Now STFU and eat a bag of dicks. You know you like it as much as that chicken sandwich.

Totally agree...

A whole bunch of busy little WASP's with blood, sweat and tears worked their asses off for about 200 years to build all that shyt. Now it's time to socialize it. I'm already looking forward to all that free shyt I'm entitled to.
