Aka AB, SE NC local surfer passed a few days ago... probably not known from here by anyone here , but he lived, worked, and surfed just about everywhere else in the world and knew a lot of people along the way. Paralyzed in a surfing accident in Fiji in 2010, he hung in there as a quadriplegic far longer than was humanely possible. Read the obit, you might have met him somewhere along the way in Hawaii, DR, the Philippines, Tobago, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, Mexico, J-Bay etc etc. :waving:

Man what a life though. that list of places he lived/worked/surfed etc would make Theroux proud :jamon:
Rest In Peace brother.

The idea of being paralyzed by a shallow reef (or shallow sandbar down the block) is far more unsettling to me than fears of drowning or shark attack or whatever, and statistically speaking, probably far more likely I would guess

He had a dream job for the right person, which he was. Did plumbing jobs for US Gov in US embassies/consulates/facilities/whatever all over the world, presumably well-paid, got to live and surf everywhere, on the G's dime. Super nice guy - old school, the kind of guy that introduces himself when you chat with him in the water. you would remember him if you ever met him.

And a complete charger - ate it on a DOH wave breaking in 2 feet of water on a reef in Fiji. and that was it.
