"The Republican party really no longer stands for any kind of principles, conservative or otherwise,” Edwards told Burnett on Friday.
“The party seems now to be completely following the lead of one man wherever he goes, which is the definition of a cult,” he continued. “Now all that matters is, ‘Trump is for this, we’re for this.’ And that includes denying truth, denying fact, denying reality. It’s such a disconnect from what’s really happened in the world.”

Edwards said Republicans speaking at this year’s CPAC “are living in an alternate reality in which facts don’t matter, the Constitution doesn’t matter.”

Consider listening to the interview.

David Purdue spells out the GOP's problem

"Democratic-leaning imbalances" = they have more voters than we do. so the problem for the GOP, since they are unable to win elections on their party's merits, is how to limit voter participation. lawyers for Arizona GOP basically just made the same argument to the Supremes:

A significant moment during virtual arguments came when Arizona GOP lawyer Michael Carvin connected the validity of the Republican-backed laws to the party’s interest in winning elections.

When asked by Barrett what the state Republican Party's interest in the case was, he replied: “Because it puts us at a competitive disadvantage relative to Democrats. Politics is a zero sum game."
it's a "competitive disadvantage" for the GOP when everyone votes. they are conceding that they are the minority party and cannot win without limiting the ability to vote.

the democrats are just doing theatre for optics. they come up this sh!t they know will have no chance to get the votes and then cry and point fingers when they dont get the votes. in the end nothing winds up happening or its severely compromised making them look bad again because they never deliver on their promises. they should come up with more relaitic goals that they know people from acroos the aisle will get behind so stuff actuallly gets done.

The people across the aisle are obstructionists. They aren't interested in solving problems. Particularly if the solution may benefit their political opponents. This has been proven time and again. Capitulating to them is a waste of time.

So you’re saying no bill will pass? I think you’re wrong.

I agree with that. Overreaching and setting unrealistic expectations is a real problem. They would be better off leveling with the people and telling them straight-up "we're going to try to get - whatever - done, but it's going to be a massive uphill battle politically"
