Isn’t the sayulita sewage treatment plant like a block from the ocean? That was my memory and it didn’t work well then. Essentially dumped finless brown trout in the ocean. Had to step over the river to walk the beach.

had some good memories there, San blas, orange beach, punta de Mita over three weeks around Mexican Independence Day ~20 years ago. El Tigre took us for free on an adventure through a a jungle, creek, fields after fields to over head surf but was certain we’d die. We didn’t. Pizza in San blas with $0.50 Modelos and a pfish cover jam band.

glad I had a longboard, fish and thruster. Didn’t use the thruster.

I took the drive from Sayulita to San Blas; cool down but surf was flat at the time but bugs weren't bad.

Sayulita is an unfortunate result of poor planning and over tourism sadly. Water and surf is better in Punta De Mita but most of the coastline is just privatized gated resorts. Michoacan and Colima may be more dangerous and rustic, but the less exploitative tourism and less over crowding is a draw for me.

Not related to Michoacán, but a sad story of the dangers of Mexican travel. It looks like 3 camping surfers were murdered in Baja Norte on the west coast not too far from the border.

Well I booked the trip for 2 weeks late Nov into early Dec.

Likely spend a night or two in Cuyutlán then head to La Ticla for most of the trip.

I spent two weeks in La Ticla and it was lovely. Surf was bigger and more chaotic than typical from what I was told for this time of year. Food and weather was great though, people were friendly.

Roads can be a bit rough in places with some randomly placed potholes and speed bumps to watch out for. Overall felt very safe... made it as far south as playa maruata, didn't make it to Nexpa though.

Next time I'd likely fly in to Ixtapa so I can tour up from the south! Beautiful coastline though sad to see so much plastic debris on the beaches.

It’s better to fly to Ixtapa. You’d have no reason to be in the type of situation where murder is common. That’s off the beaten path. You’re not going there.

Where did you stay? What kind of boards did you take?

I rented from Vasa near Manzanillo airport. Good experience overall, quick, and no hidden fees. The price they quote is the full price you pay. The picked me up from the airport despite my flight getting in 4 hours late and not till 8:30PM ...

Was able to get cash in La Placita which was nice as ATMs in the area didn't take my cards and wouldn't have had to otherwise drive to Ranchito or Tecoman.

Drive to La Ticla was about 3 hours... Roads were fine but get a rougher south of Aquila junction.

I took a 6'1" https://aftanas.ca/pages/analog

Why is it better to fly into Ixtapa?

I guess with flying into Ixtapa you can stop and spend a little time at Troncones, La Saladita, Ranch and Nexpa on the way to La Ticla? Coming from Manzanillo is pretty much just Pascuales?
