Kapu's comment on the Merrick MBM:

"Also flat deck as well, a little fuller rail. Expect this one to feel a tiny bit thicker under your arm."

With the flat deck and the little fuller rail, would you order this board a bit thinner than say a "regular shortboard?"

That depends on your reference. One man's regular 2 1/4 "rail" may be another man's 2 3/8 "rail".

If you are tuned in on Merrick's 2002 line of boards, then yes, you might want to order it an 1/8 thinner to achieve the same feel under the arm. But remember, thickness is measured in the center....so may may lose a tiny amount of overall volume.

This is why going to your local shop and referencing the rails in the rack boards compared to the center thickness may help you out.

Sometimes best to buy a rack board, use it as your reference with the shaper, and tweek it from there on your custom order.
