We were hiking in Long Meadow just a couple of weeks ago (second report says the fire is skirting the meadow).

Say a prayer for the firefighters too. When we came down the hill it was in the high 90's and the fire crews were standing around in full gear, on stand by. I was thinking, "Those guys really earn their pay."

Maybe Manbearpig can tell us what covering the bottom 1/100th of the tree does?

the name of that tree is painfully ironic on many levels, especially while a fire currently threatens it. Wasn’t it General Sherman who quite literally burned his way across Georgia during the civil war?

Pouring rain this AM a little further north. Yesterday was so smoky and nasty, the rain really cleared up that haze and air quality.

Dang, hope they fare well. We were just walking though the grove in June. General Sherman would take 21 adults holding hands to fully encircle the tree. Hard to comprehend how amazing and gigantic these trees are until you see them in person.

Pouring rain tonight up here in SW coastal OR (had a bout last night too). A few lightning/thunder claps to add to the mix. Hope Nor Cal get some out of this first front of Fall season. Inland needs it very badly.

if California needs water - why can't we tap the giant Mississippi River?
pretty sure there's plenty.
