West of the Atlantic. East of the ICW.
There's always waves on the North Coast especially for dawn patrol before the trades kick up. Some pretty heavy waves too. If there is the day with the right swell you can always drive to Rincon or drive to Rincon when the North coast is blown out. Veterans of many trips going back to the 70s clued me in on doing PR this way. Rincon is a nice family trip. A guys surf trip you go to the North Coast. So many waves up there and not just the spots everyone goes to.

been jumped in the lot at Wilderness.

Been told to go home while walking on the road at Jobos.

Didn't find Puerto Rico to be the most welcoming environment. Hopefully you have a better experience, good luck!

Recently?

i have had none of those experiences at all so far in nearly a month here. Wilderness lot seems like a pretty safe and crowded place.

Isabela area is rough around the edges. No issues at jobos.

Wild Wild West Side.

It was such a nice place to be, back in the late 70's when I lived in P.R.

:waving::shaka:

Surfed all those spots, ALONE!

wildo on the weekend is worse than surfing the super bank!!! Every type of craft from wave ski to sup to wavestorms. New surfers with booties to kooks in full suits. Mass collisions. Quite a show haha

wildo “prepárate para lo que viene”

One of the truest quotes I’ve heard

Trip report:
  1. Trip started off rough. 28 hours to get to PR from San Diego. Stuck in Chicago rerouted 3 times and had 2 extra stops. Arrived in Pr and no boards or luggage surprise surprise

  2. - First week: met up with my parents and my friends from Humacao spent the evening in nagaubo and had a little birthday celebration for friends. If you’re ever in nagaubo el karakol had the best pina colada you’ll ever drink. Went to the locals side of el yunque and got settled in the hood in Isabela. Took a trip out to culebra and cuebrita island. Clearest water I’ve ever seen. Went to old San Juan

  3. - Second week: scored a full week of waves at wildo…multiple over head sessions and always wish I had a bigger board. Feels almost like a mini sunset beach. Spray in your face feeling the fins cavitation as you drop onto a big blue wall. Almost every session was on my XTR white diamond. The board went amazing here but sucks in NCSD. Had one session at jobos. Spent the weekend with my Puerto Rican family. Always a party hahaha

  4. - week three: week from hell. My friend from Ohio came and he’s never been anywhere. He took my 6’6 Maurice cole to jobos and got the rocks and destroyed it on his first session. Maybe 30 dings. He lost his Apple Watch and spent over half the trip trying to get police reports. Lost his favorite shirt and fell on a rock and lopped off the front of his toe. WTF. Cool to have him here but it was like babysitting. Gozlandia water falls were epic

  5. - last week: scored from 3-6ft surf mostly at wildo

  6. Overall I love it here and applied for a construction loan. The people and the surf is great.

Awesome trip report Ulu!

'That' side of el yunque is the one we used to eat fresh mushrooms from the cow patties at... then drive down to the coast to have them kick in as you arrive.

:bowdown: P. R. is magical, hope you are approved!

You might know my friend in Humacao maybe went to high school with him?

The mulatto in the picture is my Puerto Rican dad. My parents visited in 1989 to his house as the story goes he heard my parents getting it on so he got it on with his wife. 9 months later my dad called him “im on the way to the hospital” our friend says “cono! Im at the hospital too” his son was born the same day as me! The story of how I was conceived in Humacao PR!

San Antonio de Abad Alumni?

Possibly.

Was he there anytime from 1980 to 1982?

:shrug:

"El internado" was a trip. Hazing night the first night there, school wrestling champ is doing souflete's to all the new overnight boarders.... off the high dive, into the pool.

:socrazy:

Ask the guy if he remebers "chochilandia"?

:roflmao::monkey::roflmao:

Or el Padre Pepe.

:bricks::cursing::bricks:

The best memory from that place was hanging out with 'hermano Tarcicio'. :bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

Thanks for the report. I get in to Rincon next Thursday. 5 nights there before I go to the Hyatt Regency on the northside for a wedding.

Great report. Wait until you catch Wilderness double overhead or beyond. Head high to double overhead its pretty playful. Beyond that it gets pretty scary depending on swell direction. It can either sweep in and be a dreamy point break or come strait on and be very square and down right frightening. Middles is a must hit spot. On our recent trip we only hit Wilderness one day and it was insanely crowded that day. This shot is from that day.

This trip we spent most of our time surfing this piece of reef not far from Wilderness with just a few people. Its a little sketchy and shallow but its a great wave.

Used to hang out in the Hotel San Juan pool as a teen, me and my two buddies would pick up chick's there, especially American teenager tourists chicas. Just stand by the bar with wet baggies and I used to have them swarming.
