Has anybody tried a Foil on a prone Paddleboard? Seems like it would work well on open water downwinders.

The new DW shapes are getting very close to regular prone paddle boards. (over 9 feet long and 16" wide) Most guys who paddle the DW boards prone to start are using hand paddles. People are even flatwater knee paddling up onto foil with the hand paddles.

Most SUP DW races like M2O have rules specifically stating you can't use hand paddles. The race that just happened in Australia didn't have that rule. You can see Jordan, the owner of handpaddleco starting in this clip around 8:21.

The benefit to hand paddles is stability. For those of us who don't know how to use a SUP paddle, there's no learning curve. No wobbling as we stand on our feet and try to paddle in a straight line.

The con to hand paddles is you have to have a better bump. Because there is a pause from the power of your hand paddles, to getting to your feet and pumping.

Most people end up with a SUP paddle in their hand at some point, because it's the best tool for the job of DW foiling.
