I rack pulled deadlifted 337.5 on Monday.

Weak for a 14 year old Chinese weight lifter girl.

But a new old age paralyzed leg record for me

My max was 375 but that was in my early 30s and my leg worked.

Hope to hit that number by the end of the year.

At your age, why?

You know you can get stronger without going for PB. You're already physically compromised. Why take needless risk? Improve your ability to move, don't risk the movement you have? Seems like as you get older you need to run risk/reward analysis of what you're doing.

I agree.

It's kind of a compulsion.

It's hard to stop when you are making weekly gains.

I'm really good at bracing my back now.

My friend who is my age and started lifting again, said the same thing not focusing on lifting more weight.

I will think about what you said.

I reached a point where I plateaued with my weight training (toddler weights) and am OK with that. I consider a maintenance program now.

But I'm probably like you with regard to distance running. Part of me wants to get back to doing full marathons. There are a lot of people my age that do them. But I'm getting knackered training for a half marathon right now. So maybe not.

I just had a really good surf session. Stars aligned, swell, conditions, lack of crowd. Later I was reflecting that I may not have that many more days like that left...

Mortality's a bitch.

All I here is haters jealous of your gains bro. What you really need to ask yourself is do they even (dead)lift, and why are they so jealous of and/or threatened by said gains and consequently intent on sabotaging future gains?

your just luck vm isn’t around rn bro smh

I thought about what Sharky said about not lifting all crazy and pulled 340 last week.

I couldn't help it.

He's right about being sensible though.

Neighbor finally dropped off the wood I said I’d buy off him the other day. Started splitting the smaller rounds first and now they’re gone. Its not really possible to get my arms all the way around them from now on and they’re all 50+ lbs.

IMG_0163.jpeg

I can see why VM had his wood delivered already split. Splitting wood by hand is hard work. Gonna be in wicked good shape for snowboarding this winter.

good genetics help too
Your mantra lol. True but one thing that VM and I did agree on is the body’s ability to adapt to stress, specifically: Specific Adaptations to Imposed Demands (SAID)

In the case of manual labor the demands are unique, you’re using literally every muscle, there’s a lot of bending twisting cross planar movements/heavy reliance on core strength, your grip is constantly being worked, and your performing movements that end up testing strength endurance more than anything aka work capacity. On a daily basis and for relatively long time periods.

As a result if you do it long enough the adaptations have to occur or as I like to say if you build it they will come and in the case of manual labor the adaptation is unlocking beast mode. Both in athletic performance and subsequently body composition.

I find the idea that manual labour is what makes you a good athlete dubious.

I became a better manual laborer after I got strong in the gym.

When I was doing manual labor for 10-14 hour shifts my numbers when down in the gym

Some guys (gifted) get strong doing manual labour, others break down.

When you work out with the genetically gifted the differences between normal people is so huge.

Same with surfing with pros.

I hate those faggots.

Isn't cross fit the same idea?

Again, it favors good genetics.

Loosers will get hurt before they get conditioned.
CrossFit isn’t the same bc it’s too random and prioritizes quantity over quality/amraps for time vs the slow burn of farm boy training/manual labor. And it’s the slow burn that I love. Starting out = chopping wood ain’t so hard. Then there’s, this is kind of starting to suck. Followed by this totally sucks now and I want to quit. And I did quit the other day but then after a break finished splitting the last round I had bc I didn’t want to feel like a loser quitter. And that’s the other thing coaches love about the farm kids besides their (unquantifiable) athleticism, their tenacity. Their all hard workers who don’t quit when things get hard.

I posted this in the running thread (I gather most of the strength guys are not much into running) because Ryan is the US record holder in the half marathon and has the fastest US marathon time but it was on a net downhill course (Boston) so it doesn't count in the record books. He has since shifted his focus to strength training.

VM might call this an example of "stupid human tricks" but he also said trail running was the best thing to help your surfing.

I've always liked zen philosophy, though probably have not really lived it, which is the whole point.

I remember when he must’ve just done that/ of it was making the rounds of the interwebs. Imo then and now is it’s a legendary/heroic demonstration of work capacity/strength endurance and imo overall athleticism. sh!t just the chopping or carrying alone would be legit af but combined wtf.

Chopping or technically splitting wood is a bitch. I decided td the only thing I’ve done that’s harder is busting up concrete. By the time I was done td even the muscles in my hands and fingers were tired, and I could barely grip my axe technically maul. And as the articles Ive posted mentioned it’s interesting to experience how as the muscle groups originally tasked with powering the movement run out of gas you can still keep going using different ones.

it’s zen af as I understand it. Very meditative along with requiring a surprising amount of skill, technique, and concentration. Accuracy and consistency are paramount and it is immensely satisfying once you get a big round to split, especially if you’ve had to battle with it.

I'm suspicious that this guy is chemically-enhanced. In general, these narcissistic influencers are not good people to follow. Their physiques are generally a combination of chemical enhancement and old-fashioned bodybuilding, not gimmicks like chopping wood and running with water. You're basically contributing to their loafing and dissolution by following them.

It's fine to follow people trying to sell you something as long as they're up-front with it and they're actually using their own product, e.g. Rip sells "Sets of FAHVE" and uses "SETS OF FAHVE." Renaissance Periodization's Israetel uses his own app and shows his own training, not gimmicks. He's also up-front about his drug use.

I built this lever belt squat b/c it allows me to train QUADZ at home without loading the rest of my spine which adds systemic fatigue. Mine is 48" instead of 41" as depicted in this video (some men are longer than others). Mine also has several 5/8" pin holes to shorten the lever arm.

I started low-bar squatting again to train adductors. I have highly-inserted adductors and have to manspread significantly due to the effects of low-bar squatting.

I am not deadlifting much except SLDLs/RDLs to train hamstrings. I'm doing an old-fashioned stretching program for mobility.

I've been talking to a dad on my kid's basketball team who has an MSPT. It's crazy how far behind they are in understanding modern pain science.
